Senior leaders understand that the foundations for learning behaviour and emotional regulation are established in the early years. As a result the school has developed a strong pastoral and SEND framework to support pupils who experience difficulties with behaviour emotional regulation or social development. The school is now seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support pupils across Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1.
The Behaviour Mentor will work closely with pupils who require additional support to manage emotions behaviour and engagement with learning. Many of the children supported may present with SEMH needs ASD ADHD attachment difficulties or speech and language delays.
You will act as a consistent and trusted adult helping pupils to feel safe understood and supported throughout the school day. Through positive relationships and structured interventions you will support children to develop emotional awareness self-regulation skills and positive behaviour patterns.
Provide targeted 1:1 behavioural and emotional support
Deliver small group interventions focusing on emotional literacy and social skills
Support children within Nursery and classroom environments
Assist pupils during transitions and daily routines
Support behaviour during playtimes and lunchtime periods
Implement individual behaviour support plans
Use restorative play-based and trauma-informed approaches
Work closely with class teachers EYFS staff and the SENCO
Observe assess and track pupil progress
Maintain accurate records and contribute to review meetings
Build strong and respectful relationships with parents and carers
Support safeguarding and child protection procedures
The school is seeking a calm empathetic and resilient individual with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You should have a strong understanding of early childhood development and the ability to respond to challenging behaviour with patience and consistency.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Experience in a Primary Nursery or EYFS setting
Knowledge of SEND SEMH and attachment-based approaches
A nurturing and consistent behaviour management style
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Emotional resilience and adaptability
A reflective and proactive approach to supporting pupils
Qualifications in childcare education psychology youth work or mental health are desirable but not essential.
