General Knowledge Skills and Abilities linked to various classifications:

Health Care Technician II:

  • Provide direct patient care assist with vital signs examinations and activities of daily living (feeding bathing toileting ambulation) within scope of practice.
  • Ensure patient safety during transport maintain clean and orderly rooms and perform tasks such as changing linens and making beds.
  • Collect lab specimens (blood urine feces sputum) and engage patients in therapeutic and recreational activities including mental health group therapies.
  • Manage medication processes: transcribe orders order/store medications administer treatments document administration monitor effectiveness and side effects and reinforce patient education.

Licensed Practical Nurse:

  • Provide routine nursing care under RN supervision including patient screening observation and assessment within scope of practice.
  • Deliver basic wound care personal care respiratory therapy catheter/colostomy care and collect vital signs and specimens.
  • Prepare and administer medications perform TB skin tests and accurately document patient information.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist Registered Nurses and Physicians with treatments and procedures as needed.

Registered Nurse:

  • Deliver professional nursing care in compliance with medical protocols policies and NC Board of Nursing scope of practice.
  • Conduct sick calls and assessments assist physicians carry out orders and plan implement and evaluate nursing care.
  • Respond to medical emergencies monitor communicable diseases counsel patients on compliance with diet medications and treatment manage inquiries schedule appointments and order medications and supplies.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to LPN and CNA I/II staff as designated by management.

These are full-time position s (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Note: If possessing a single state RN license from a state other than North Carolina MUST apply and receive at a minimum a Temporary License to practice in NC prior to hire date.

About the Division:

TheDivision of Comprehensive Health Servicesprovides evidence-based compassionate and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians nurses behavioral health services dental services psychiatric services pharmacy services and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent acute routine and chronic health care as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison improving public health and decreasing recidivism.

      Registered Nurse: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

      Charge Nurse: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of nursing experience.

      Licensed Practical Nurse: Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the state of North Carolina.

      Health Care Technician II: High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
