Expression of Interest Team Lead Clinical Engineering (CE) Department Purpose of the role:The Team Lead position in Clinical Engineering provides senior leadership and support to the team that they manage. The principal purpose of this role is to ensure that medical devices are safe effective reliable well-managed and fully support high-quality patient care. This role will involve providing support across both Medical and Peri-Op teams in Clinical Engineering and would require the successful applicant to work with both current Acting Heads of Department as their backfill. The successful applicant would still have to carry out the duties of their current role in addition to the below duties and may need to train other colleagues in order to ensure cover for their area of responsibility. Flexibility is a key requirement for this role.Reporting to Senior Management of Clinical Engineering Head of Facilities Operations & Service Transformation QRSM Medical Clinical Financial Directorates DCEO.Key Duties & Responsibilities:Daily Duties- Deputise as Acting Head of Clinical Engineering as required.
- Assist with
- General staff management in the department.
- Governance and compliance for all CE managed equipment.
- Medical Device Alerts FSN and FSCA management.
- Management of major and minor capital replacement.
- Training of staff to ensure adequate cover.
- Administration of AIMS database.
- Management of rigid scopes.
- Strategy on Hazard Vulnerability Assessment Business Continuity Plan & Business Impact Analysis.
There are tasks not listed above that could emerge during the contract term that the Team Lead may need to take on.Governance Safety and Compliance- Ensure compliance with regulations Government Frameworks and patient safety regulations.
- Oversee risk management relating to medical devices including incident investigation and corrective measures.
Support to Clinical Services- Provide expert technical consultation to clinical departments across hospital.
Strategic Leadership- In this role the Team Lead will provide senior scientific support for activities related to the departmental strategy.
- Help develop implement and evaluate arrangements for the supervision calibration quality control and safety of work in the patient monitoring and physiological measurement fields.
- Participate in the Hospitals teaching agreement with Trinity College Dublin Technological University Dublin and other academic institutions and in other academic activities as required.
Staff Management- Provide cover for either Acting Head of Department as required.
- Assist with the training of staff with professional advice and ensure their career development is in keeping with the Mission Vision and Values of the Hospital.
- Foster open communications healthy working relationships and stimulate initiatives among the Clinical Engineering department.
- Foster a positive team working environment in the Clinical Engineering department.
Financial Aspects- Assist when required with the management of the budget for the Department including a budget for the management of medical equipment in the Hospital ensuring the most effective use of available resources.
- Ensure along with other members of the departmental management team that expenditure is controlled within agreed budgets/cash limits and in compliance with the Hospitals Financial Plan and Service Plan.
- Help maintain an Asset Register of appropriate equipment.
Particulars of OfficeThe appointment is a Specified Purpose Contract for a minimum of 6 months.The successful applicant will be required to carry out the duties of their current post in addition to the duties outlined in this Expression of Interest.Remuneration is in accordance with the salary scale approved by the Department of Health. Current remuneration with effect from August 2025 is:-Physicist Senior -LSIsQualifications & ExperienceMust have:- Honours . Degree in Engineering/Physics (or equivalent)
- 7 years relevant experience in Clinical Engineering
- Practical experience of use of IT systems / packages
- Fluent command and understanding of the English language to include spoken and written word
