CONSULTANT GENERAL SURGEON

Special Interest Colorectal Surgery

Bon Secours Hospital Cork is Irelands largest private hospital. Established in 1915 the hospital has 344 beds employs over 1000 staff and cares for more than 100000 patients per annum. It is an acute general hospital providing an extensive range of medical and surgical specialties for both adults and children including Oncology Cardiology Orthopaedics Gastroenterology General Surgery Cardiothoracic and Radiotherapy Services.

In the context of the strategic development and expansion of services at Bon Secours Hospital Cork we are seeking to recruit a new fifth Consultant General Surgeon to join the existing 4 full-time General Surgeons currently working in the Hospital.

We would like to hear from suitably qualified and experienced General Surgeons interested in building a private practice in a modern technologically advanced hospital at the forefront of private medicine in Ireland.

  • Full participation in the acute surgical on call rota will be required.
  • Experience in minimally invasive surgical interventions is desirable.
  • At least two years substantive consultant experience is desirable.
  • A special interest in colorectal surgery is desirable.

The successful applicants will need to be confident decision makers committed team-oriented individuals and possess excellent communication and engagement skills.

Bon Secours Hospital Cork possesses state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities that provide rapid access to tests and results for patients and GPs throughout the Munster region. The Hospital is a teaching hospital of UCC thereby making a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Medicine Nursing and Allied Health Professions. The Hospital is proud to hold many quality accreditations including JCI INAB ESMO and JAG.

Bon Secours Hospital Cork caters for urgent admissions from GPs in Medicine Paediatrics and Surgery and operates a busy Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) and Surgical Admission Unit (SAU). The Hospital has a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit Coronary Care Unit a High Dependency Unit and 11 modern theatres. Bon Secours Hospital Cork has a state-of-the-art Endoscopy Unit supporting a full range of Endoscopic procedures including ERCP. The unit was awarded JAG accreditation in 2024.

Application Process:

  • Applicants must hold registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland or entitled to be so registered.
  • Have achieved the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of Ireland (FRCSI) or a qualification in equivalent thereto.
  • Inclusion or eligibility to be included on the Surgical division of the register of Medical Specialist maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland.
  • Undertaken an International Fellowship in a relevant Specialty.
