The Team
The Rural and Remote Team is an established and compassionate group of professionals who bring creativity and commitment to their work each day. The team includes Child Protection Workers based in Prince George (2 CPWs one position currently vacant)and a Youth and Family Support Worker the community of Mackenzie (2 CPWs) and the community of McBride (1 CPW on a 7-on/7-off schedule). They work closely with First Nations partners Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies and local service providers to support families and address child safety concerns. The Role
As a Team Leader with the Ministry of Children and Family Development you will lead a dedicated group of professionals delivering child protection assessments family support services and youth programming in rural and remote communities. This leadership role involves supporting staff collaborating with Indigenous service partners and representing the Ministry in court when necessary. The work is deeply meaningful and focused on child safety family well-being and community engagement. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements.

1. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Masters Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
  • At least 2 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.

2. Expanded Credentials:

  • Bachelors Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelors Degree witha Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Masters level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelors Degree.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience and at least 2 years of job-specific work experience OR At least 3 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.

Human Services fields include: Psychology Sociology Criminology Anthropology Early Childhood Education Indigenous Studies Education Theology or Nursing.

Additional Experience Requirements:

  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service; which includes a Criminal Record Check and a Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Currently hold full delegation (C6) under the Child Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • 6 months or more supervisory experience.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following MCFD offices: Prince George Mackenzie.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
