Job Summary

Position Summary
The role of the Diplomacy Initiative Faculty Fellow will be to work with the Vice Provost for Global Affairs on strategies for increasing the Diplomacy Initiatives delivery of programming for the over 600 students participating in the Carolina Diplomacy Fellows program with a focus on programming development and student engagement. As part of this effort this position will report to the Vice Provost for Global Affairs and communicate and collaborate often with the Vice Provost and other UNC Global Affairs staff. The Diplomacy Initiative builds on Carolinas stand-out strengths in the curriculum and expands opportunities for students and faculty to learn and teach the skills used by diplomats in solving global challenges. The initiative and this role delivers on the Global Guarantee by increasing access to a transformative global education for all Tar Heels. Tasks include leadership on: annual Washington Week trip to DC with 20 students to meet with career diplomats and federal foreign service officers; the Diplomatic Discussions series including inviting prominent speakers to campus to meet with students and faculty and deliver lectures to classes in coordination with faculty; The annual (spring) Policy Brief Competition for students; developing and delivering skill building courses and resources for students to learn about careers in international affairs. This positions is temporary and parttime limited to 30 hours per week the appointment period runs from Jan 1 2026 Jun 30 2026. Hybrid work schedule is available.

Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
A 5 year career in the US foreign service in a diplomatic or prominent administrative role. Experience as faculty instructing students in a university setting.

Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
A 10 year career in the US foreign service in a diplomatic or prominent administrative role.
