Job Summary

Position Description



Under the general supervision of the Communications Manager the Video Communications Specialist is responsible for producing high-quality multimedia content primarily video for a variety of platforms that tells the story of Commissioner Precinct 3 and informs approximately 1.2 million residents. This position plays a key role in translating complex government operations into clear engaging and accessible visual storytelling for digital web and public-facing platforms.


The Video Communications Specialist leads end-to-end video production including concept development scripting lighting audio filming conducting interviews editing and final delivery. Projects may range from planned long-form & short-form storytelling to rapid-response content with same-day or short-turnaround timelines.


Beyond technical production this role requires a strong foundation in public-sector communications and public relations including message alignment proactive planning problem identification and avoidance and coordination with internal departments. The ideal candidate is one who often researches the latest developments in video styles is collaborative adaptable and comfortable operating in a fast-paced government environment where priorities may shift quickly.


This position contributes to broader communication strategies and ensures visual and messaging consistency across all channels including videos graphics presentations social media and other communications materials.


Duties Responsibilities:

  • Plans produces and edits high-quality video content for use across multiple platforms including social media websites email campaigns and presentations; oversees full pre-production through post-production workflow.

  • Travels to Commissioner Precinct 3 facilities events and project sites to capture video photography and interviews that support communications goals.

  • Collaborates with internal departments and external partners to plan projects identify storytelling opportunities schedule recordings and ensure accuracy and alignment with approved messaging.

  • Supports digital and social media efforts including formatting video content for platforms such as Facebook X (Twitter) Instagram Nextdoor and YouTube in coordination with the communications team.

  • Provides general communications support to the Communications Manager and Communications Director including assistance with special projects campaigns and time-sensitive or emergency communications as needed.

Requirements

Required Education / Experience:

  • Education: Bachelors degree and five (5) years of experience in Film / Video Production Communications Journalism Public Relations Multimedia Production or related fields required.

Experience:

  • Ownership of full production workflows (pre-production through post)

  • Producing content for public-facing audiences

  • Working in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

  • Coordinating with multiple stakeholders or departments

  • Portfolio that demonstrates advanced conceptual video creation/editing writing samples and graphic design skills for digital and print

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency in video production lighting audio and modern camera equipment with strong post-production skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro Photoshop Illustrator InDesign).

  • Demonstrates ability to manage full video production lifecycles from concept and scripting through final delivery.

  • Knowledge of best practices for digital web and social media content in a public-sector or professional communications environment.

  • Strong writing and editing skills including video scripting story summaries web copy and press-style writing.

  • Understanding of public relations principles message discipline and working within an approval-driven government setting.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to balance multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to apply logic and critical thinking to identify communication risks evaluate options and recommend solutions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of audiences.

  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of ethical behavior exercising honesty and integrity respect confidentiality and fairness in the execution of their responsibilities.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • This job operates in the field to capture content and a professional office environment when editing content.

  • It may occasionally require the ability to lift items up to 10 pounds and bend or stand as necessary.



Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
