Key Responsibilities:
Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Enforce and promote a strong safety culture including the use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Oversee and ensure compliance with all safety protocols such as PSM Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and confined space procedures.
- Conduct safety meetings toolbox talks and incident investigations.
- Ensure all environmental regulations are followed and report any incidents or releases to management.
- Assume the role of Incident Commander during emergencies.
Operational Leadership:
- Direct and coordinate daily production activities to meet shift targets for output quality and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot process upsets equipment failures and other production issues to minimize downtime.
- Monitor process equipment and control systems to ensure operation within established parameters.
- Coordinate with other departments such as Maintenance and Quality Control to facilitate plant operations.
- Plan and prepare for upcoming production runs including staging raw materials and verifying equipment readiness.
Team Development and Culture:
- Manage and provide leadership to a team of chemical operators.
- Train new employees on standard operating procedures (SOPs) safety guidelines and equipment use.
- Conduct performance evaluations coach employees for development and administer disciplinary action when necessary.
- Manage employee scheduling attendance and overtime.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Quality Control:
- Monitor product quality and ensure all finished products meet customer specifications.
- Oversee the sampling and analysis of chemicals and raw materials.
- Initiate and follow up on corrective actions to address quality non-conformities.
- Maintain accurate and legible production logs reports and documentation.
Administrative Duties:
- Communicate shift activities and performance in a detailed and accurate shift turnover log.
- Utilize plant software such as SAP to manage work orders material usage and production schedules.
- Contribute to and support continuous improvement efforts across the site.
Qualifications:
- Typically 3-5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is required.
- Proven supervisory experience leading and directing a production team is often preferred.
- In-depth knowledge safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to find solutions in the field.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities including team building coaching and conflict resolution.
