The Position
Class Code 28300: Process Server
Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:
1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:
- Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
- Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
- Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
If you are requesting an interclass transfer or voluntary demotion either action is a change in class. Whether the change is a transfer or a demotion depends upon the difference between the maximum salary rates of the requested and incumbent classes. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.294 or the applicable labor agreement sets the criteria for determining the maximum difference allowed. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.228 defines demotion.
The Process Server performs duties related to locating persons and serving legal process.Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to
- Plan and organize daily workload
- Maintain simple recordkeeping systems
- Develop information from the public and other sources to identify persons to be served
- Evaluate situations and people accurately and adopt effective courses of action
- Learn the procedure for the service of different types of process
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Safely operate a motor vehicle
- Speak read and write English at a level necessary for successful job performance

There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this class.
Special Requirements
All persons appointed to positions in these classes:
Must possess a valid California Drivers License Class III or higher by date of appointment; failure to maintain such license may be cause for personnel action under Civil Service Commission Rule 11.4.
and
Must be at least 18 years old by date of appointment pursuant to California Civil Procedures.
and
Must be able to work irregular hours nights weekends and holidays if needed.
