Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.
The LMS Administrator III administers a learning management system (LMS) currently Blackboard including back-end administration and front-end user support. Collaborates with training and development professionals to deliver responsive programs and content to meet the needs of the organization. Performs regular administrative tasks including user support troubleshooting and system updates. Loads configures tests and maintains learning content. Interfaces with the system vendor to resolve issues enhance functionality and deploy new features. Creates learning documentation aids and training materials for users (Faculty and students). Conducts system training sessions for end-users instructors and other administrators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acts as primary system administrator for Blackboard SaaS system including all LTI and B2 integrations. This includes planning and implementation of upgrades system configuration system maintenance functions (e.g. space management; document retention) integration of third-party courseware monitoring system performance and developing and documenting systems and processes for LMS Management.
- Provide Blackboard training for faculty including creation of learning resources (handouts videos web pages etc.).
- Lead transition of legacy Learn courses to new Ultra course formats.
- Develop and deliver training materials in support of new technologies used within the LMS and for upgrades to Blackboard or transitions to new LMS systems.
- Provide technical support for Blackboard SaaS to faculty and students to improve learning outcomes facilitate technology-rich teaching and advance curricular innovation.
- Respond to students and faculty support tickets phone calls chat and email regarding ongoing Blackboard maintenance issues such as course setup test delivery user accounts etc.
- Support faculty in use of courseware designed to engage students and achieve learning outcomes.
- Review SIS integration daily troubleshoot and work with Dat Systems staff to correct errors.
- Interfaces with the system vendor to resolve issues enhance functionality and deploy new features. Support integrations with third-party tools publishers and other vendors.
- Collaborate with the Instructional Designer (Academic Affairs) to develop implement and assess online academic courses and standards.
- Complete duties and responsibilities in compliance with university standards policies and guidelines.
- Complete all required training and professional development sessions required by CDU.
- Stay updated and trained on the latest features and updates of the LMS platform and implement improvements to enhance functionality.
- Promote positive morale and teamwork within the Academic Computing unit and provide exceptional customer service to students faculty and the CDU community.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in education Information Technology or Computer Science or equivalent experience in technical roles as an LMS Administrator with a proven track record of success.
EXPERIENCE:
- Four (4) to seven (7) years of experience using LMS software/platforms.
- Experience with Blackboard SaaS in higher education preferred.
- Experience creating user guides.
- Experience with content management.
SKILLS:
- Ability to work closely with technical support teams and be responsible for troubleshooting set up and integrations.
- Ability to customize the look and feel of the platform to meet university specifications and the user experience.
- Familiar with the technical tools commonly used in online teaching and course delivery.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook Excel Word PowerPoint SharePoint).
- Ability to research and recommend new tools that can support the unique needs of the institution.
- Ability to configure and manage the LMS to meet the needs of the institution and its learners.
- Understanding of user experience and user interface design and alert to any potential user accessibility experience or interface problems.
