Job Summary

Purpose of the Position

The Director of Operations and Personnel is responsible for overseeing and strengthening the operational infrastructure and people systems of our charity Learn. Develop. Succeed. (LDS). This role ensures that all programs locations (in-person and virtual) and team members are supported through effective systems policies and practices that align with LDS mission values and growth goals.

Working closely with the Executive Director Senior Managers and Support Team the Director of Operations and Personnel provides both strategic oversight and hands-on leadership to ensure organizational sustainability operational excellence and a positive respectful workplace culture.


Key Responsibilities

Organizational Operations & Infrastructure

  • Provide strategic leadership for the day-to-day operations of the charity ensuring smooth functioning across all locations and virtual environments.
  • Oversee physical and digital operations including workflows project management tools IT systems and other tools and systems that support staff team families learners and programs. Oversee IT and assistive technology (IT/AT) policies and systems that support staff productivity and service delivery.
  • Ensure team members have access to appropriate tools training and support for technology use across the organization.
  • Anticipate organizational growth and operational needs developing and implementing scalable solutions to meet increasing demand.
  • Lead planning and oversight of facilities spaces equipment and supplies ensuring safe effective and welcoming environments.
  • Supervise the Senior Manager Finance on operational budgeting resource allocation and cost-effective planning.


Human Resources & Personnel Leadership

  • Oversee all human resource functions including employee records management ensuring compliance accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Oversee and direct processes for recruitment hiring onboarding progression and retention for all salaried and contract positions.
  • Support review processes including support plans and ongoing personnel development.
  • Monitor facilitate and celebrate employee milestones anniversaries and professional growth within the organization.
  • Lead on workplace health and (physical and mental) safety including WorkSafe compliance regular training on policies and procedures sitting on the organization Joint Health and Safety Committee and other matters.


People Culture & Policy Development

  • Champion a positive inclusive and values-driven workplace culture that reflects LDS commitment to respect inclusion and collaboration.
  • Develop implement and maintain HR and operational policies that support staff wellbeing accountability and organizational consistency.
  • Serve as a resource for team members on workplace policies expectations and professional conduct.
  • Lead on conflict resolution and sensitive personnel matters in collaboration with the Executive Director.


Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as a key member of the Leadership & Support Team contributing to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
  • Supervise and support key team members in HR Operations and Finance including delegation coaching mentorship and capacity-building.
  • Work closely with the Senior Management Team to align operational systems with program delivery and instructional needs.
  • Provide operational insight and reporting to the Executive Director and occasionally the Board of Directors or its Committees.
  • Take on additional tasks and projects as required to support organizational priorities and growth.


Professional experience and qualifications

  • Strong mission and values alignment
  • Bachelors degree in HR Business Administration or related field and ideally an advanced degree in the same
  • 812 years progressive HR and operations experience
  • 35 years in senior leadership
  • Strong knowledge of BC employment law policy and compliance frameworks
  • Experience scaling systems in a growing organization
  • Experience working in or serving on a volunteer board of a nonprofit
  • Proven people leadership experience with an ability to be trusted and balance empathy and accountability
  • Confident and clear communication style and exceptional listening skills
  • Excellent judgement and discretion.
  • Commitment to ethical leadership and stewardship


Strongly preferred

  • CPHR designation
  • Change management experience
  • Conflict resolution training or certification
  • Equity diversity inclusion & accessibility (EDIA) certification or training

Reports to:Executive Director
Manages (currently): Senior Manager Finance; HR & Operations Manager (who has 3 direct reports) and works closely with leadership and support team.

Remuneration and Benefits:

  • $105000 to $115000 annual salary.
  • Financial support for relocation expenses is available.
