Job Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and working closely with the Sr. Business Analyst ERP and PMO Lead theProjectManager Academic Systems provides project and program management leadership for a portfolio of academic systems and digital modernization initiatives across BCNET and its member institutions. Operating within a Project Management Office (PMO) framework this roleis responsible forplanning governance delivery oversight and reporting for multiple concurrent projects supporting post-secondary academic operations.
TheProjectManager Academic Systemsworkswith institutional partners vendors provincial government representatives and internal BCNET teams to ensure projectsare deliveredconsistently efficiently and in alignment with strategic priorities. This role emphasizes strong project governance stakeholder coordination and repeatable delivery practices across shared services and sector-wide initiatives.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Program and Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of academic systems and digital transformation projects using PMO standards and methodologies.
- Develop andmaintainprogram roadmaps project plans schedules milestones and interdependencies.
- Track and report on project performance including scope schedule risks issues and outcomes.
- Support prioritization sequencing and resource planning across multiple initiatives.
- Contribute to benefits realization planning and post-implementation evaluation.
Project Governance and Controls
- Establish and apply project governance structures decision-making frameworks and approval processes.
- Developmaintain and enforce standardized PMO artifacts including project charters work plans risk registers status reports and change logs.
- Manage change control processes and assess impacts to scope timelines and resources.
- Ensure projects align with BCNET policies standards and reporting requirements.
Stakeholder Partner and Vendor Management
- Serve as a primary point of coordination between institutional stakeholders BCNET teams vendors and external partners.
- Facilitate steering committees project working groups and executive-level updates.
- Manage vendor delivery contractual milestones and dependencies across multiple projects.
- Support alignment across institutions while accommodating local requirements within shared initiatives.
Delivery Oversight and Implementation Support
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of projects from initiation through implementation and stabilization.
- Coordinate readiness activities integrations and handoffs to operational teams.
- Ensure training communication and change management activitiesare incorporatedinto project plans.
Continuous Improvement and PMO Maturity
- Capture lessons learned and performance metrics to improve project delivery practices.
- Develop reusable templates toolkits and documentation to support consistent and scalable delivery.
- Contribute to the ongoing maturity and effectiveness of BCNETs PMO.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Project Management Information Systems Education Technology or a related field.
- 3-5 yearsof experience managing complex projects or programs preferably within post-secondary public sector or shared-services environments or;
- 3-5 years of experience managing complex projects or programs supporting Registrars Office academic administration or student systems.
- Experience working within a PMO or applying formal project management methodologies (e.g. PMI PRINCE2 Agile/Hybrid).
- Knowledge of or certification in change management (e.g. ACMPProsci)
- Proven experience in web developmentUXSharePoint (development and administration) and leading or supporting platform and content migrations.
