Job Summary

La Sierra University seeks a qualified candidate to assume the position of Director of Risk Management. The Director of Risk Management oversees compliance in areas of Safety Emergency Preparedness ADA and Title IX Coordination and provides strategic leadership and oversight for institutional compliance risk mitigation campus safety accessibility and Title IX coordination. The position safeguards the universitys people property and operations by ensuring compliance with federal state and local regulations; managing institutional risk exposure; coordinating emergency preparedness and response; overseeing ADA compliance; and serving as the Universitys designated Title IX Coordinator. Title IX coordination responsibilities comprise approximately 25% of the position with the primary focus remaining on risk management safety emergency preparedness and ADA compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Risk Management (Primary Responsibility)

  • Administer the Universitys risk management program in coordination with Adventist Risk Management and insurance providers.
  • Review contracts leases rental agreements and vendor partnerships to assess and mitigate institutional risk.
  • Oversee liability property and workers compensation claims and support Human Resources in managing related cases.
  • Maintain insurance documentation certificates of coverage property valuations and asset inventories.
  • Develop and deliver training and guidance to departments on loss prevention risk awareness and compliance obligations.
  • Prepare periodic reports and recommendations for senior leadership regarding insurance coverage claims activity and emerging risk trends.
  • Oversee the annual review of hazardous materials storage handling and use across campus ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations coordination with Environmental Health & Safety requirements and corrective action as needed.

Safety & Emergency Preparedness

  • Lead the universitys safety program ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations local fire codes and related safety standards.
  • Serve as Chair of the University Safety Committee; coordinate inspections hazard assessments and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure departments maintain current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and complete required annual safety training.
  • Oversee annual review and updates of the Business Emergency Action Plan and related safety policies.
  • Direct the universitys emergency management program including development implementation and maintenance of the Campus Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness planning drills and after-action reviews in collaboration with Campus Safety & Security and external emergency response agencies.
  • Oversee emergency communication systems (e.g. Rave Alert) testing protocols and user training.

ADA Compliance

  • Oversee institutional compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504.
  • Manage accommodation request processes for students employees and visitors including documentation implementation and tracking.
  • Maintain and update the Universitys ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan.
  • Provide consultation to departments on accessibility requirements related to facilities programs and capital projects.
  • Oversee ergonomic purchases.
  • Serve as the primary institutional contact for accessibility-related inquiries and complaints.

Title IX Coordination (Approximately 25%)

  • Serve as the Universitys Title IX Coordinator overseeing compliance with Title IX VAWA Campus SaVE and applicable state laws.
  • Ensure the University maintains compliant Title IX policies procedures and grievance processes; oversee periodic policy review and updates.
  • Coordinate and oversee the Universitys response to Title IX complaints including assignment of investigators monitoring timelines and ensuring adherence to procedural requirements.
  • Assess interim measures informal resolution options and institutional responses to prevent recurrence and address discriminatory effects.
  • Maintain Title IX records and reporting systems and prepare periodic and annual compliance reports as required.
  • Coordinate required Title IX training programs for employees students investigators adjudicators and campus safety personnel in collaboration with Human Resources and Student Affairs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external agencies related to Title IX compliance and collaborate with Campus Safety on Clery Actrelated data collection.

Leadership & Administration

  • Supervise assigned staff and manage operational priorities and budgets related to Risk Management Safety ADA and Title IX coordination.
  • Prepare annual assessments goals and compliance reports for assigned functional areas.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership legal counsel and campus stakeholders to promote a culture of safety preparedness accessibility and compliance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelors degree with preference given to degrees in Risk Management Occupational Safety Emergency Management Public Administration Higher Education Administration or a related field required.
  • Masters degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in risk management safety emergency preparedness ADA compliance or related compliance functions.
  • Experience in higher education or a public-sector environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating compliance programs and investigations; direct Title IX experience preferred but may be supplemented with training and institutional support.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal state and local laws related to risk management safety ADA and Title IX compliance.
  • Strong analytical organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse campus stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office database systems and emergency notification platforms.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified Risk Manager (CRM) Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM).
  • FEMA ICS/NIMS certifications (IS-).

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with regular campus site inspections and meetings.
  • Occasional evening or weekend availability required for emergencies investigations or compliance needs.

Salary Range: $70304 - $83000 plus generous benefits.
