General Summary:
The Landscaping Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily work assignments and supervising in areas related to maintenance in Harris County Precinct 2 Landscaping Department. The position supervises and oversees operations maintenance programs and management of staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan assign and supervise daily landscaping and grounds maintenance activities across parks facilities and public areas ensuring efficiency and quality standards are met.
Perform and oversee landscaping tasks including mowing trimming planting mulching irrigation and general grounds upkeep.
Operate and maintain light and heavy equipment such as mowers tractors trimmers and blowers; ensure proper use and safety compliance by crew members. Inspect work sites and completed projects to ensure adherence to safety protocols maintenance standards and departmental procedures.
Train direct and evaluate crew members providing instruction on techniques safety and work quality.
Coordinate schedules and maintenance projects with supervisors and other departments including preparation for events or seasonal activities.
Monitor and maintain inventory of tools materials and equipment and report maintenance or supply needs.
Maintain records and prepare reports on work performed crew assignments and equipment usage.
Respond to emergencies and after-hours situations such as storm damage irrigation issues or fallen trees. Communicate effectively with the public vendors and staff to ensure positive public relations and service delivery.
Education and Experience:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and in operating maintenance and construction equipment is required.
Knowledge of work scheduling record-keeping and task coordination along with strong leadership and communication skills.
Able to establish effective working relationships with staff supervisors and the public; follow written and verbal instructions; and assume supervisory duties when needed.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends on-call and emergency response is essential.
Requires skill in using hand and power tools (such as rakes shovels trimmers and mowers) and in operating light and heavy equipment including tractors with attachments ATVs and utility carts.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Regular Full-time
Our parks are open 365 days of the year. The Parks Department works 5 - 8 hour shifts.
Hours/days may vary based on business needs of the department and some weekend evening hours or holidays will be required during special events or in times of emergency response/preparedness.
Work Environment andPhysical Demands:
Work is performed where extreme temperatures caustic substances physical hazards respiratory hazards humidity noise vibrations and other hazards may be encountered. This position is outdoors so a strong candidate must enjoy being outside in all weather conditions.
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally the following physical abilities are required: balancing climbing crouching feeling grasping handling hearing kneeling lifting mental acuity pulling reaching repetitive motions speaking standing stooping talking visual acuity and walking.
