About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for aRegular FullTime Charge- Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our dynamic Testing team in Ottawa
The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by performing routine and extensive testing. These testing services help ensure a safe and secure blood supply that protects donors and recipients. Every unit is tested so we can ensure a safe supply chain to every this role you will perform routine testing by following operating procedures and recording all related quality control/assurance activities.
Formula for success
- Utilizing your exceptional organizational skills you will organize and distribute workload to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory accession and office areas.
- Drawing on your expertise you provide technical procedural and theoretical support to staff
- Monitors workflow and ensures equitable distribution of the workload to meet expected turnaround times.
- Drawing on your laboratory experience and under the direction of the Charge Technologist coordinates the implementation of new projects procedures and improvements to workflow.
- Perform supervisory duties.
- Investigates technical and other patient related problems and keeps the Lab Manager informed.
- Drawing on commitment to excellence you will ensure issues related to quality are followed up with appropriate corrective action.
- Assist with the coordination of training and orientation programs for all departmental staff.
- Ensures training documentation is prepared and reviewed.
- Perform testing procedures.
- Order receive and prepare reagents or reagent kits for testing.
- Prepare laboratory equipment for routine operation.
Desired education and skills
- Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology training program with attained certification by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is required.
- Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) is required.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a transfusion medicine laboratory or other related discipline is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of hospital and various laboratory policies and procedures is required.
- Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is required.
- Previous experience with PCR and NAT is an asset.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred
- Senior Technologist or Charge Technologist is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills being able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities within short time lines.
- Ability to effectively delegate and direct the efforts of staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a good command of the English language.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with departmental staff management volunteers customers and the general public.
- Competency in the use of personal computers within a Windows environment using Microsoft Word Excel Powerpoint and email software.
- Recognized commitment to ongoing training and development.
- Actively promotes the importance of team cohesiveness pride and accomplishment in the delivery of a superior level of service.
- Demonstrates good listening skills in order to enable effective and satisfactory resolution of problems.
- Ability to follow instructions document work and assume responsibility for own work.
