About the Role
As the Year 6 Class Teacher you will take responsibility for leading a Year 6 class through their final year of primary education. You will deliver high-quality teaching across the curriculum with a particular focus on English and mathematics while supporting pupils wider personal and social development.
You will work collaboratively with the Upper Key Stage 2 team senior leaders and support staff to plan engaging lessons analyse pupil progress and implement effective interventions. A balanced and child-centred approach to SATs preparation is central to the role ensuring pupils feel confident supported and motivated.
This role is suitable for experienced Year 6 teachers or confident Key Stage 2 teachers who are ready to step into Upper KS2. Early Career Teachers with strong KS2 experience may also be considered with appropriate mentoring and support.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities as a Year 6 Teacher will include:
Planning and delivering high-quality lessons in line with the National Curriculum
Preparing pupils for end-of-Key-Stage assessments in a structured and supportive way
Teaching reading comprehension writing grammar and mathematics to a high standard
Using formative and summative assessment to track pupil progress
Analysing data to inform planning and targeted interventions
Differentiating learning to meet the needs of all pupils including SEND and EAL
Creating a calm focused and inclusive classroom environment
Promoting positive behaviour independence and resilience
Working closely with teaching assistants to support learning and intervention groups
Supporting pupils emotional wellbeing and transition to secondary school
Communicating effectively with parents and carers
Contributing to staff meetings moderation and whole-school initiatives
Upholding safeguarding health and safety procedures at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The school is seeking a Year 6 Teacher who demonstrates:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching in Key Stage 2
Strong subject knowledge in English and mathematics
Confidence using assessment data to inform teaching
High expectations for pupil achievement and behaviour
Excellent classroom management skills
A calm organised and resilient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable but not essential:
Previous Year 6 or SATs experience
Subject leadership experience or interest
Experience working in an Outer London school
