Post Title: Registrar in Gynaecology

Employer: Tallaght University Hospital

Post Duration: Six months

Educational Supervisor / Trainer: Dr Aoife ONeill Consultant Gynaecologist

Learning Objectives: The following learning objectives will be completed during this six-month trainee rotation

Clinical:
  • To achieve competence in the management of common gynaecological presentations and conditions (measurable outcome: review 100 new patient attendees and 200 return patient attendees)
  • To achieve competence in the initial management of acute gynaecological conditions particularly out-of-hours (measurable outcome: co-ordinate the patient journey from initial presentation to operating theatre and discharge for at least five emergency cases out-of-hours)
  • To achieve competence in basic surgical skills and gynaecological procedures particularly hysteroscopy (measurable outcomes: complete 30 diagnostic hysteroscopy procedures under general anaesthesia 25 laparoscopic and 5 open abdominal entry procedures)

Teaching:
  • To develop teaching skills (measurable outcome: complete 6 dedicated small-group teaching sessions for medical students and interns with feedback from students and on at least one occasion peer-feedback)

Research:
  • To participate in a research project (measurable outcome: complete a retrospective review leading to presentation at the hospitals Research Day and/or a local or national meeting (e.g. Obstetric & Gynaecological Society))

Management / Leadership:
  • To present and participate at a weekly journal club (measurable outcome: present two papers to the Departmental group)
  • To present and participate at a monthly Departmental multidisciplinary meeting (measurable outcome: present two meetings (i.e. all cases during the meeting) to the Departmental group)

  • Satisfactory registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) and the provision of your IMC Registration Certificate effective from 9th July 2018.

  • Satisfactory completion of Self Declaration Form
  • Satisfactory completion of Garda Vetting Form
  • Satisfactory clearance from Occupational Health Department
  • Satisfactory evidence of Residency Status
  • Satisfactory evidence of currentACLS / APLScertificate.NCHDs who participate in Crash Call include those working in Adult and Paediatric Medicine Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Anaesthesia.It is not permitted for you to be a member of the Crash Call team without a current certificate.
  • Satisfactory evidence of Hand Hygiene training.
  • Satisfactory evidence of Manual Handling training.
