ELECTRONIC MONITORING (EM) TECHNICIAN: Alaska Fisheries

Responsibilities
This position is a full-time job based at our headquarters in Anchorage Alaska that requires extensive travel to remote ports throughout Alaska. The ultimate goal of the EM technician is to provide an accurate reliable unobtrusive monitoring system and give vessels the support they need to integrate this technology into their fishing operation as seamlessly as possible. This support is provided both remotely by phone and email and in person.

Data Review:EM Techs also review a portion of the data that Saltwaters EM system produces. Depending on the fishery this could be as simple as ensuring correct system functionality or as complex as producing full observer style data reports on fishing effort location and species composition. Training will be provided.
Hardware and Software: EM Technicians are responsible for all aspects of our EM hardware and onboard software. They are expected to develop a complete understanding of how the system and software works how to edit and create configuration files for each project and how to troubleshoot a range of problems. Training will be provided. Technicians may also be involved in hardware and software modernization projects.
Data Management: The Alaska EM Technicians will be involved in maintaining the Alaska data repository. This may include ensuring vessels have adequate HDDs managing the HDD workflow and data storage as well as copying and distributing data to video reviewers as necessary.
Reporting:All technical support services must be fully documented. For some projects the EM Technician will also need to provide the Project Manager a weekly or monthly report of service and/or installation activities.
Skills & Experience Required
B.S. or higher in one of the natural sciences (biology fisheries natural resources wildlife biology limnology etc.) orB.S. or higher in Computer Science or 4 years relevant experience.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude/skills.
Ability to develop practical solutions to problems.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent people and communication skills.
Proficient Demonstrated proficiency with computer technology ie(Linux preferred but training will be provided)s including Linux.

Additional Information:
All tools and applicable equipment/inventory will be provided and assigned for the applicant to manage including a work mobile phone and/or laptop.

Location
This is a full-time position based in Saltwaters main office in Anchorage Alaska. Relocation assistance will be provided if necessary.
