Job Summary

Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of a School Social Worker with the Child Study Team. This position is responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Educational Services Certificate Endorsement. The background of the social worker includes skills and knowledge related to educational and psychological concepts medical information community services and the use of social casework methods.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services in coordination of the Child Study Team

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The School Social Worker provides services for students with academic social emotional or physical problems which interfere with their normal progress in school. The School Social Worker functions in three basic areas: (1) the home (2) the school and (3) the community.

  1. Provide comprehensive social assessment including all aspects of students adjustment i.e. developmental social medical educational as they relate to students functioning in the educational setting when requested.
  1. Provide periodic social re-evaluations and update of classified Handicapped students as mandated by law.
  1. Participate in Child Study Team staff meetings at assigned schools to discuss and plan for evaluated children and for newly referred students.
  1. Schedule meetings for parents and participate in the initial IEP conference and annual IEP review.
  1. Meet with the Child Study Team and Coordinator monthly to set team goals and objectives.
  1. Attend periodic out-of-district conferences for classified Glassboro students attending private educational facilities.
  1. Schedule appointments for appropriate medical specialists required for classification and/or differential diagnosis of students.
  1. Implement and coordinate in accordance with Child Study Team recommendations and other referrals follow-up activities which may include interpretive conference with family short-term family counseling and/or referral and other community resources.
  1. Correspond with or contact medical professionals schools and institutions or agencies for the purpose of requesting or providing information pertaining to students who are known to Special Services.
  1. Prepare necessary summaries and applications for admission or referral for appropriate social agencies.
  1. Maintain a comprehensive current resource file and serve as a resource referral person for schools and families regarding services provided by outside school agencies and institutions.
  1. Keep informed of new legislation community resources and educational programs and techniques pertaining to children in need. Disseminate the information to appropriate school personnel.
  1. Set up and administer free reduced price meal program each year consistent with state policy and guidelines. Consult with school personnel and families regarding eligibility.
  1. Attend staff meeting and serve as appropriate on staff committees.
  1. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative regulations and board policy.
  1. Perform duties which are within the scope of his/ her employment and certifications as assigned by his/her supervisor in accordance with N.J. State Law State Board of Education Rules and Regulations Local Board of Education Policies and contractual obligations.
  1. Maintain ethical and professional behavior in working with school personnel and other agencies.
