Job Summary/Description:
Alaskas News Source is an award-winning dominant number-one station looking for an experienced licensed meteorologist for this critical part-time role one we lean on to cover unfilled schedules as needed. The ideal candidate has broadcast meteorology and digital experience a comfortable on-air appearance a climate reporting skill set and be able to break down complex weather data into easy-to-understand broadcast and online weathercasts written stories and multimedia weather content for digital platforms. We are looking for a proven Meteorologist with a passion for the career field and experience on broadcast and digital platforms but with a schedule that is flexible to help us fill shifts both in advance and at the last-minute whenever needed.
Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and engaging weather forecasts
* Generate creative and engaging content-driven live shots
* Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software is a plus
* Ability to drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting both in the studio and in the field
* Ability to multitask handle breaking weather/events and adapt to rapidly changing developments
* Cover other meteorologists shifts as assigned as well as the flexibility to cover shifts during severe weather/events
* Post daily stories to our digital platforms and social media including online weather discussions to explain complex weather phenomena in an easy-to-understand format
* Be actively involved on the stations social media platforms and responsive to viewer inquiries
* Represent Alaskas News Source at community and station-sponsored events including school presentations and station tours
* Record shortened daily weathercasts for radio partners
* Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist news management photographers and newscast producers to deliver exceptional weather coverage and regular reporting
Qualifications/Requirements:
* Bachelors degree in meteorology atmospheric science or a related field
* 3 years of experience in broadcast and multimedia news content generation
* Ability to write for broadcast news and digital platforms
* Ability to visualize and create weather graphics
* Understanding of principal journalistic ethics
* Valid drivers license and good driving record
* Willingness and ability to work in extreme weather conditions while reporting on breaking weather events
