A teaching professor (assistant/associate) contributes to the CSD graduate and undergraduate program with a strong record of teaching classroominnovationand student interactions. They are expected to independently create and redesign a range of courses in their field ofexpertise being able to assess student performance and learning outcomes andtoprovide formal or informal advising on students academic and careerdirections.Contributionsin the scholarship of teaching and learning and supervision of student employees delivering instruction (Teaching Assistant) are part of this role as well asfostering collaboration withfaculty and staff in the development of teaching strategies.

Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukeecampus.

Anticipated start date will be the fall 2026 semester (August 2026).

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Facilitates classroom online and/or laboratory instruction including assessment of student performance
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit

The School of Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology (RS&T) offers programs in Occupational Therapy Assistive Technology and Accessible Design Athletic Training Physical Therapy Communication Sciences & Disorders Performance Psychology Rehabilitation Science and Therapeutic Recreation.

Communication Sciences and Disorders Program

The Communication Sciences and Disorders program offers a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree that prepare students for careers in speech-language pathology through evidence-based coursework hands-on clinical training and research opportunities embedded throughout the curriculum. Nine clinical academic staff and tenured faculty educate 60graduateandapproximately 80undergraduate students. Accredited for over 55 years the graduate program advances its mission to develop leaders in clinical practice who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with communication and swallowing needs.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is expected to be $82000-$92000 depending on the level hired (Assistant/Associate) on a 12-month basis at 100%. Final salary offer will be contingent upon degree and the knowledge skills and abilities demonstrated throughout the selection process.

Required Qualifications:

  • A terminal academic degree (PhD or EdD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field or ABD with anticipated completion date prior to start of employment.

  • A minimum of three years of work experience in the field of communication sciences and disorders (clinically and/or academically) with relevant experience in student mentorship

  • Evidence of one year of teaching experience (classroom or clinical supervision)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASHA CCC-SLP certification (holding the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC))

  • PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders (COMSDIS)

  • Record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations

  • Expertiseparticularly in one or more of the following areas:

Teaching clinical and/or researchexpertisein one or more of these areasis preferred: Voice Fluency Articulation & Phonological disorders Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

  • Additionalexpertise areas that may also be considered:

Expertisein autism counseling child language disorderliteracyorotherCSD-relatedareas.

  • Evidence of continued growth toward outstanding teaching (asevidencedthrough teaching evaluationsummaries)

  • Interest in developing a strong didactic philosophy focused on student-centered learning (evidencedby continuing education on this topicteachingevaluationsummaries)

  • Experience in academic program review or accreditation and/or graduate admissions (evidencedby a record of participationrolesand/or responsibilities in those activities)
