Management Prefers:
  • Demonstrated experience in standard safety and security practices includingworking knowledge of standard methods of handling and reporting emergencies such as public disturbances and building malfunctions.
  • Demonstrated experience meeting and dealing with the public tactfully courteously and effectively as well as consistently show a high-level of quality customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working as an effective team member is essential to working in this position as is the ability to take and follow orders.
  • Demonstrated experience walking or standing for extended periods of time while also being able to act quickly effectively and responsibly in an emergency situation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Walking and standing for long periods of time while patrolling galleries and outdoor events.
  • Providing day-to-day security and protection of the Museum of art facility works of art and visitors.
  • Providing security for special events that could include concerts park festivals and other types of programming that take place at the museum.
  • Being attentive to break schedules and gallery assignments by staying within assigned area(s).
  • Work schedule can include working days nights weekends and holidays to include overtime on occasions.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Typical work schedule is Wednesday - Sunday 9:00am-5:30pm.
  • Employee is considered Essential/Mandatory Staff and required to work on adverse weather days during emergencies and may be called to work special events.
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods of timewith or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50lbs.with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Position is subject to environmental conditions both inside and outside must have the ability to work in these conditionswith or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school

OR

General Educational Development (GED) diploma;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

May require the ability to complete emergency medical technician (EMT) training and meet re-certification standards as required.

The North Carolina Museum of Artis a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The statutory purpose of the museum is to acquire preserve and exhibit works of art for the education and enjoyment of the people of the State and to conduct programs of education research and publication designed to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of art on the part of the people of the state. The states art collection spans more than 5000 years from ancient Egypt to the present making it one of the premier art museums in the Southeast. With a 164-acre campus the museum also has the distinction of being the nations largest art museum park with an extensive trail system that connects to the 63-mile Capital Area Greenway through the City of Raleigh. Facilities located within the park include two main museum buildings a large outdoor performing arts facility/amphitheater parking lots bike trails and greenways.

Veterans and National Guard Preference

Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application. Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
