Lighthouse Technology Services is partnering with our client to fill their Senior Windows Systems Engineer (AD) position! This is a 12 month contract opportunity and can be remote in the United States (EST working hours). This role will be a W2 employee of Lighthouse Technology Services.
Position Overview
The Senior Windows Systems Engineer is a senior hands-on engineer responsible for operating modernizing and automating enterprise Windows platforms. While a primary initiative for this role is executing and improving Windows Server upgrade workflows the position also carries broad responsibility for Windows Server and Active Directory engineering across the environment. The role requires deep expertise in Active Directory PowerShell automation and Windows workloads hosted in AWS along with the ability to design repeatable low-risk operational workflows. The work is project-driven and outcome-focused with a flexible schedule that includes availability during defined maintenance windows planned change periods and occasional evenings or weekends to support production upgrades and platform changes.
What Youll Be Doing:
- Execute Windows Server upgrades using in-place and side-by-side methodologies across production and non-production environments.
- Perform readiness assessments and validate system health post-upgrade.
- Troubleshoot upgrade issues and develop low-risk high-reliability upgrade strategies.
- Design and automate workflows to standardize the upgrade lifecycle including validation backup execution and rollback.
- Operate as a senior engineer for Active Directory managing DNS DHCP trusts GPOs and authentication flows.
- Troubleshoot complex AD-related issues such as replication failures and Kerberos problems.
- Support Windows Server workloads hosted in AWS including hybrid identity architectures.
- Maintain and troubleshoot Windows roles and features like IIS clustering and file services.
- Create and maintain documentation related to upgrades automation and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate work with infrastructure operations and application teams.
What Youll Need to Have:
- Deep end-to-end expertise in Active Directory including DNS GPOs replication FSMO roles and trusts.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting skills with a strong focus on automation and tooling.
- Demonstrated experience performing Windows Server upgrades in production environments.
- 5 years of engineering experience with Windows Server (2012 R2 or newer).
- Experience supporting Windows workloads in AWS (EC2 networking storage).
- Strong troubleshooting skills in OS identity and infrastructure domains.
- Ability to work independently in a project-based environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting multi-domain or large-scale AD environments.
- Familiarity with clustering Hyper-V or VMware.
- Experience with monitoring platforms (e.g. CloudWatch Splunk SCOM).
- Exposure to configuration management or automation frameworks.
- Relevant Microsoft or AWS certifications.
Pay Range:$65-$70/hr
