Minimum Qualifications and Training
- Masters degree in Speech Language Pathologist
- Tennessee License with certification in Speech Language Pathologist
- Tennessee Teaching License with an endorsement in Speech Language Pathologist
- Proficient in the use of computers to include word process database and spreadsheet applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative-working relationship with those contacted in the course of work at all levels
- Ability to prepare clear concise accurate and complete reports including statistics
- Such alternative as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
Goal: Provide diagnostic remedial and consultative service for children with communicative disorders: provides consultative services for school personnel regarding children with speech hearing and language difficulties; operates as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Directs clinical habilitative educational management for students with disorders of language speech and hearing
- Evaluates and diagnoses children with speech and language disorders through use of standardized tests techniques and procedures
- Conveys pertinent information to appropriate personnel
- Selects children with clinical communication disorder for enrollment in therapy according to appropriate criteria and by state and federal guidelines
- Prepare and maintains records and reports as required for compliance with various state federal and administrative regulations
- Identifies student abilities and speech hearing and language needs based on the Tennessee State Department of Education guidelines
- Develops long-and short-term goals and objectives collaboratively with the IEP team implements this plan in appropriate setting and within the curriculum
- Documents finding action taken and /or recommendations made regarding areas of service mandates
- Assist in the development of student transition plans and goals
- Refers an individual with communicative disorders to available community agencies when appropriate
- Provides consultant resources and supervisory services in program and curriculum planning
- Develops and implements training opportunities and in-service for education staff parents and administrators
- Devises a treatment program aimed at improving identified areas of function as they relate to the student educational needs and the State of Tennessee Curriculum and the curriculum of the Arlington Community Schools
- Attends meetings trainings conferences and travel to a variety of work sites within the district as required to meet the needs of students
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the superintendent and/or principal may assign
The Speech and Language Pathologist maintains a forty-hour (40) work week and works additional hours as required to carry out all of the duties and responsibilities for the position. This is 10-month position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This job supervises students and manages a caseload of students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
