Job Summary

The Docent Coordinator designs and evaluates guided experiences that invite visitors to connect reflect and respond to the museum collection and focuses oncreating training materials and facilitating walkthroughs for both incoming and experienced tour guides that provideappropriate levelsof support and Docent Coordinator will work in alignment with content and material developed by the Interpretation Specialist and the Museum ExperienceDivision.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • 40% Facilitate Training - Develop and implement a yearly training program and appreciation events for themuseum tour guides and volunteers.
  • 20% Tour Scheduling - Assistin scheduling volunteers to lead tours for all guided visits.
  • 15% Lead Tours - Be willing to step -in and lead guided tours when needed.
  • 10% Recruitment - Recruit new volunteers annually with a focus on maintaining retention of new and experienced members.
  • 10% Museum Experience - Uphold the highest standards of a visitor- focused museum experience and respond to all visitors groups and volunteers with clarity respect and integrity. Contribute to the visitor- focused work of the Museum Experiences Division.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned

Required Education: High School diploma or GED

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of office procedures
  • Ability to use a computer and take clear messages.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Excel Word and Teams PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner
  • Must be detail- oriented
  • Ability to multitask be organized and self-motivated
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Departmental Preferences:

  • Strong interest in learning about visual art
  • Customer service experience
  • Microsoft Word Excel Outlook and Teams

Supervision of Others: Volunteer tour guides.

Supervision Received: Reports to the Interpretation Specialist
