What you will be doing
Fairbanks International Airport Police and Fire Officers are responsible for all law enforcement firefighting and first responder medical assistance at the Fairbanks International Airport. Airport Police and Fire officers are State of Alaska certified law enforcement officers. They face a wide variety of law enforcement responsibilities from enforcing municipal and state laws to assisting the traveling public as well as networking with and assisting a myriad of diverse agencies. Special emphasis is placed on supporting the regulations and policies of the Transportation Security Administration. Providing a community-oriented service is valued and emphasized. Officers are the primary law enforcement response for the terminals and airport roadways
The incumbent receives training at a State certified police academy and field training with senior officers. All requirements of the Alaska Police Standards Council must be met for certification. Employees are enrolled in the DPS Academy in Sitka. The employee must also successfully pass the State of Alaska Firefighter I Firefighter II Aircraft Rescue Firefighter Hazardous Materials Operations and Emergency Trauma Technician certifications. All training is paid for by the Department and the employee receives pay while in training. Officers will work shift work throughout their career.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Applicants are required to pass a written examination to continue with the hiring process. Applicants who fail the written test will be disqualified from this recruitment. The test is general aptitude in nature and has a pass/fail grade.
The applicant including out-of-state applicants will be responsible for their travel to and from the examination site. Testing will either be conducted in Fairbanks and/or remotely vial online resources.
After taking the written test applicants are required to pass a physical agility test. The test has a pass/fail grade.
WRITTEN TEST EXEMPTION LATERAL APPLICANT
To meet lateral requirements and be exempt from the written test you must have twelve months work experience as a police officer AND possession of an active police officer certificate issued by a jurisdiction inside or/ outside the State of Alaska and recognized by the Alaska Police Standards Council. Although lateral applicants are not required to take the written test you will need to contact the Hiring Manager at or to receive the written test waiver.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Airport Police & Fire Officer 1 orAirport Police & Fire Officer 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1 promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
