SUMMARY

The Mechanical Design Engineering Intern will assist the Airport Building and Utilities Infrastructure team by assisting with complex design and planning tasks at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Work involves contact with interdepartmental groups agencies and project teams in support of the Airports capital program and its associated coordination requirements with internal and external stakeholders and partners.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Building and Utilities Infrastructure staff with design and planning projects and programs. Compiles new and archive information and assists Building and Utilities Infrastructure staff with the execution of the design review and construction meetings. Assists in the review and inspection of ongoing building infrastructure site visits including photo documentation and site reports. Assists Building Utilities and Infrastructure staff with design reviews and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Assists in team-oriented design and construction projects including frequent communication with Aviation Facilities staff.

None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The intern shall be currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering program at an accredited university with a focus in Mechanical Engineering. Coursework related to heating ventilating and air conditioning is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Coursework and/or experience related to heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) plumbing and/or fire protection systems
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word Excel PowerPoint etc.)
  • Proficiency in .pdf editing software (Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam)

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Heat transfer systems and fluid flow
  • Building construction processes and practices

Skill in:

  • Iterative design review processes
  • Troubleshooting mechanical systems

Ability to:

  • Multi-task assignments with varying due dates
  • Interpret design drawings in various formats and software suites
