Job Summary:

The Occupational Health and Safety Consultant III working under the general direction of the DCS Occupational Health and Safety Consultant 4 and the Administrator of the Division of Business Support Services with the Department of Child Safety (DCS). This position is responsible for a variety of actions regarding the health and safety of DCS employees throughout the state working to ensure that the strategic goals established by the Operational Risk Management Department are met.

The Occupational Health and Safety Consultant 3 reviews responds and processes all Unusual Incident Reports statewide and compiles reports based on specialized data and information. Responds to disease and exposures with the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) protocols.

The person in this position will assist in the development implementation and support of special projects related to the Operational Risk Management departments mission of creating a safe and healthy work environment for all DCS employees.

Job Duties:
  • Provides administrative and operational support including technical assistance in all areas of risk management including but not limited to: floor plan reviews accident/incident reports OSHA/Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) violations and complaints and life safety matters.
  • Unusual Incident Report (UIR) response processing and tracking of all reports. Includes entry into the Risk Management database and pulling statistical data for management. Understand the specific needs and challenges of DCS Staff. Knowledge of office security and security guard post orders.
  • Assist Risk Manager with development communication and implementation of Emergency Action Plans for each DCS office statewide. Quarterly review of office Fire Warden/Searcher assignments and training reviews.
  • Research and processing of Facility Improvement Notices (FIN) assigned through the Landport Facilities Management System.
  • Environmental indoor air quality assessments including initial assessment to determine if hazardous conditions exist. This is done through occupant surveys and building assessment and coordinated with Office of Real Estate (ORE).
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • DCS Policy and Procedures
  • Regulatory requirements established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
  • State and Federal agency rules and applicable laws
  • Practical application of safety management and loss prevention with Arizona Dept. of Administration (ADOA)

Skills in:

  • Oral and written communication
  • Interpersonal relations as applied to contacts with the agency staff or representatives of other government agencies specifically ADOA
  • Customer service skills
  • Organization and time management
  • Administrative tasks including use of Microsoft Office programs

Ability to:

  • Interpretation of all Federal and State safety standards regulations laws rules and codes
  • Work independently or cooperatively
  • Administrative tasks including use of Microsoft Office programs.
Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will possess two or more years of experience in the field of Risk Management administrative support or communications role: must possess strong communication skills written and oral.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Requires the possession of and ability to retain a current valid state-issued drivers license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R.11). Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintain valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration. Mileage may be reimbursed if applicable. Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from DCS Central Registry.
