The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking a Research Officer to join the Monash Genome Modification Platform (MGMP) within the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences based at the Clayton campus.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to high-impact biomedical research by providing high-quality scientific and technical services that support genome modification projects across Monash University and the external research community.
Working as part of a specialist platform you will support researchers through hands-on laboratory work coordination of technical services data handling and adherence to rigorous scientific and safety standards. You will work closely with platform colleagues to ensure services are delivered efficiently accurately and in line with established protocols contributing to research outcomes that advance discovery and translation.
About the Platform
The Monash Genome Modification Platform provides specialist genome modification services across three core areas: preparation of DNA constructs modification of cell lines and production of genetically modified rodents. The platform plays a critical role in enabling cutting-edge research across disciplines and partners with both internal and external research groups.
MGMP is part of Monashs extensive research infrastructure network supporting scientific excellence through high-quality compliant and responsive technical services.
What You Will Do
Plan implement and coordinate laboratory services in molecular biology
Perform technical services related to genotyping of genetically modified mouse and cell lines
Prepare DNA samples conduct PCRs restriction digests and agarose gel electrophoresis
Prepare samples for sequencing to verify genome modifications
Support operational projects through accurate record keeping databases and information systems
Ensure compliance with scientific protocols OHS requirements and regulatory standards
Prepare documentation reports and data summaries for research leaders and stakeholders
What You Will Bring
You will bring a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience along with strong organisational and coordination skills. You enjoy working in a laboratory environment take pride in following protocols precisely and are confident working both independently and as part of a team.
Experience with genotyping techniques and molecular biology workflows will be highly regarded as will your ability to learn new technologies equipment and systems quickly. You are methodical safety-conscious and motivated by enabling high-quality research outcomes.
