Oaklands College is seeking a dedicated and passionate Learning Mentor to provide personal development and pastoral support to its 1618 student cohort. Founded in 1921 Oaklands has a strong heritage of equipping students with the knowledge skills and confidence needed to achieve their ambitions and contribute positively to their communities. As the College continues to develop and grow the Learning Mentor will play a vital role in supporting students alongside their academic programmes and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
The role involves delivering scheduled Personal Development sessions to tutor groups working closely with curriculum teams to monitor attendance and ensuring students have a positive engaging experience throughout their time at the College. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the complex challenges faced by some students in Further Education and will be able to manage sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality. Strong organisational skills the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential. Previous experience in an education or youth work setting is required along with a commitment to delivering a high-quality student experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Act as a learning mentor and therefore be responsible for a group of students providing timely transparent support.
To provide pastoral support to students and refer to Student Services or Additional Support for specialist help and advice if required
To robustly monitor students attendance and punctuality and make appropriate interventions as and when required.
To deliver a programme of group Personal Development Sessions (PDS) which develops personal and employability skills including the Prevent agenda and embedding British values with support from Student Services and/or external speakers where appropriate and by accessing cross-College activities
To support students to achieve their full potential by providing mentoring through 1:1s both within the Personal Development Sessions and outside the classroom. These sessions are focused on enabling student success and co-ordinated in partnership with curriculum and the aims and ambitions of individual students
To provide accurate and up to date records of student interventions in accordance with the College data protection policy
Monitor and review students progress in line with the Colleges student tracking systems and make appropriate interventions as and when required
To provide impartial confidential information advice and guidance to students on all aspects of learning and progression opportunities

Qualifications
2 years experience of working within a learning environment or a youth work setting.
Ability to contribute effectively as part of a team and confidently manage tasks independently.
Demonstrates a strong understanding of the complex challenges and issues affecting some students in further education.
