System Engineer
Location: Round Lake IL (On-site)

Position Summary
The System Engineer Controls Engineering is responsible for leading and executing controls engineering efforts for manufacturing equipment and automation projects. This role focuses on PLC and HMI development system design support and cross-functional coordination while contributing to project planning budgeting and execution.
This position operates with minimal supervision and plays a key role in resolving field issues improving controls standards and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Plan schedule and lead smaller projects or defined portions of larger automation initiatives

Develop detailed project schedules and coordinate execution with engineering development and technical support teams

Design develop and implement large-scale PLC programs HMI systems vision systems and servo systems

Collaborate with design engineers technicians plant personnel and external vendors to support equipment design fabrication and assembly
-
Support cost estimating budget tracking and cost control for controls engineering within capital projects
-
Prioritize and manage multiple tasks across several projects simultaneously
-
Investigate manufacturing and field issues perform root cause analysis and implement corrective improvements
-
Drive standardization and continuous improvement in controls technology programming practices and internal processes

Provide technical guidance and coordinate work for engineers and technicians as assigned
Required Technical Skills & Experience

Strong background in Controls Engineering with PLC-based systems
-
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing equipment including electrical and pneumatic systems

Proven experience in electrical control system design

Hands-on experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks Electrical preferred)

Experience with:
Preferred Skills

Robotic programming experience (Fanuc Omron Staubli)

Vision system experience (Cognex)
-
Experience in healthcare or other regulated manufacturing environments
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

3 years of relevant controls engineering experience

Experience supporting or working directly in a manufacturing environment preferred

Ability to manage projects and effectively direct technician activities

Strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles across disciplines

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
