Job Summary

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Parts Manager the Parts Person is responsible for ordering stocking and dispensing parts to shop employees. Duties include reviewing work orders processing requisitions and billing parts to appropriate units. This position requires a high attention to detail effective time management and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive and sort incoming parts and supplies
  • Store items in an orderly and accessible manner
  • Review work order and order necessary parts required to complete repairs in a timely fashion
  • Negotiate part costs with suppliers and wholesalers in order to reduce company expenditures
  • Dispense parts to mechanics welders and other shop employees
  • Process parts required to complete repair and bill to appropriate truck unit
  • Monitor inventory levels and prepare requisition orders to replenish parts and supplies
  • Ensure parts department and station is clean and organized
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary


JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Technical ability to understand and use transportation and parts service programs
  • Strong negotiation skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to manage time effectively while completing multiple tasks
  • High attention to detail required in order to ensure accuracy
  • Ability to receive direction concerning work tasks and responsibility


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Parts Person Certificate preferred
  • A forklift operator certificate is an asset
  • Minimum of 1 year experience


WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL ABILITY

  • Indoor working environment
  • Moderate manual dexterity required
  • Ability to exert force up to 25kg
