GEMS (Graduates: Engaged Mastering Succeeding)
Stamford Hospital GEMS Nurse Residency Program is nationally accredited with distinction by ANCC is an innovative nurse residency program unlike any in the area! The goal of the GEMS program is to easenewgraduate nurses into the patient care environment while providing them with the support they need tosucceedas they transition into the role of a professional nurse.
The GEMS program is 12-months long and is specifically designed to provide the extra support and education needed for new nursing graduates. Itconsists of 14-18 weeks of orientation. Typically the first two weeks are in the classroom followed by 12-16 weeks on the clinical unit with a addition the program comprises of regularly scheduled debriefing sessions throughout the first year. These sessions provide opportunities for education support and professional development. At the end of the first year there is a formal graduation ceremony and all nurses who complete the program requirements are awarded a completion certificate.
Any new RNaccepted into the GEMS program is hired as a full-time employee onto a specific unit.
