General Summary

Under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist the Radiation Therapist prepares communicates to the patient and administers radiation treatments to patients. During treatments incumbent will monitor the patients responses include reactions and document results for Oncologist review.

Essential Functions

  1. Accurately and efficiently reviews patient list daily ensure supplies are sufficiently stocked and available for use.
  2. Maintains records of daily treatments and documenting in ARIA.
  3. Communicates with Oncologist and other medical professionals prior to during and after treatment to ensure patient treatment goals are met.
  4. Communicates to Physician Chief Radiation Therapist and/or Physicist any abnormal or erratic operations of equipment.
  5. Communicates with patient about plans of treatment and answers basic questions. For advanced questions refers to physician or Radiation Supervisor.
  6. Ensures documentation consent/release and other required forms are on file and valid prior to treatment.
  7. Positions patients for treatment according to physician order.
  8. Ensures proper radiation safety protocols are met.
  9. Verifies that proper immobilization devices are stocked utilized disposed of or sterilized after each use.
  10. Other relevant duties as assigned.

Supervisory Requirements

This position will not supervise any other staff members.



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or be registry eligible as a Radiation Therapist.
  2. Must show the ability to work with ARIA.
  3. Must have advanced knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; radiation physics.
  4. Must be able to assess and evaluate physical and psychological patient status including changes in condition and formulate appropriate actions and communicate with appropriate personnel if there are any changes in patient condition.
  5. Must show an ability to interpret medical terminology and communicate with patients or caregivers proper course of treatment.
  6. Must show the ability to efficiently operate equipment and report any malfunctions to supervisor.
  7. Must show the ability to have excellent interpersonal skills and communication to interact with all walks of life internal and external to UCA from all educational or cultural backgrounds.
  8. Must show the ability to work independently or within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Must show the ability to maintain confidentiality including strict adherence to HIPAA and UCA Guidelines.

Licensure Certification Registration Requirements

Must be licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or be registry eligible as a Radiation Therapist.

Must be CPR Certified.
