The Role: Controller in a publicly listed company

Reporting to the CFO and at times the CEO you will be a critical member of our finance team. You will be responsible for the integrity of our accounting functions while actively seeking out and implementing improvements to our systems and processes. Youll have the ability to enhance our capabilities implement new technologies and take on increasing responsibilities as our business expands. This is a remote position candidates must be based in and eligible to work in Canada.


What Youll Do: Key Responsibilities


Accounting & Reporting Excellence

  • Own the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements for CFO review ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS.
  • Manage the year-end audit process serving as a key contact for external auditors to ensure a smooth and timely review.
  • Maintain the integrity of our internal controls framework including supporting our NI 52-109 documentation.
  • Ensure the company remains in full legal tax and regulatory compliance across all our operating jurisdictions.

Financial Analysis & Business Partnership

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis including monthly budget-to-actual variance reporting forecasting and financial modeling to support business decisions.
  • Assist in managing treasury functions by preparing detailed cash flow forecasts and analyses.
  • Support the annual budgeting process collaborating with departments to gather inputs and deliver insightful analysis.
  • Produce clear high-quality reports that translate financial data into actionable insights for the leadership team.

Process Automation & Improvement

  • Drive the evaluation and implementation of new accounting systems and financial software (ERP AP automation BI tools) to improve efficiency and data quality.
  • Actively explore and implement emerging technologies including AI-driven tools and agentic workflows to automate manual tasks and enhance our analytical capabilities.
  • Take the initiative to build and refine project accounting systems and related processes as our operations grow.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with a geographically dispersed team of accounting staff fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Act as a helpful and proactive partner to other departments providing financial data and support as needed.


Requirements

What You Bring: Qualifications & Experience

  • You have a professional accounting designation (CPA) and a relevant university degree.
  • You bring 5 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience with a solid foundation in full-cycle public company reporting.
  • Previous experience in audit at a Big Four accounting firms.
  • Ideally you have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a Controller Assistant Controller or similar role in a public company.
  • You are proficient in financial analysis and an advanced user of Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel (complex formulas pivot tables data modeling).
  • Proven experience in preparing complex quarterly consolidations involving multiple entities and currencies for CFO review.
  • Experience in the mining or natural resource sector is a significant asset but not required.
