THE ROLE: Reporting to the Shelter Supervisor the Animal Care Attendant will be responsible for leading caregiver shifts facilitating day to day animal husbandry and ensuring that our animal care areas are clean and stocked. Having a strong understanding of animals their behavior and medical needs is important in facilitating appropriate housing and enrichment for animals in our care. You enjoy working closely with others and are positive and approachable. At heart you strive to see every animal provided with the highest quality of care during their time at the shelter. You are tech savvy to support entering animal files and other administrative tasks as required. You love engaging with people and are proud of the excellent levels of customer service you provide. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Genuine interest in animal welfare.
Emotional resilience to handle difficult or stressful situations.
Animal handling experience; including ability or willingness to work with feral and under socialized animals.
Intermediate to advanced level of office software proficiency in MS Word Excel Internet Google Docs and databases.
Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
Proven track record of being able to cultivate positive working relationships.
Personable with the ability to develop a positive rapport with stakeholders.
Must be able to work Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00am to 7:00pm
CONSIDERED AN ASSET
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Work with shelter staff and caregivers to ensure animals are cared for by AARCS standards and ensure their ongoing well being and quality of life.
Lead shelter shifts including delegating responsibilities and facilitating shift huddles.
Assist with cleaning feeding and general animal husbandry for all animal species.
Administer medication to shelter animals as prescribed by AARCS Veterinary Hospital.
Monitor animal health and behavior documenting and communicating concerns to the veterinary team.
Maintain shelter cleanliness including but not limited to; cleaning crates washing dishes doing laundry washing the floor and participating in deep cleans.
Accurately record animal care activities notes and observations in shelter management software (PetPoint).
Facilitate adoption meet and greets when needed.
Facilitate training for new caregivers and support enrichment volunteer training ensuring all volunteers are equipped to follow AARCS care standards.
Provide and maintain appropriate housing and enrichment for animals ensuring their comfort safety and mental stimulation.
Collaborate with Shelter Supervisor to ensure supplies are stocked at all times.
Assist with shelter intake foster home discharges and supply requests as needed.
Other tasks as assigned.
