The Land Transport Infrastructure Division (LTID) plays a key role in supporting the delivery of close to $100 billion in Australian Government investment towards road and rail projects that shape how Aussies live work and connect. We work in tight partnership with state and territory governments Infrastructure Australia and other key players to deliver nationally significant projects. Think faster commutes safer roads and stronger communities.

Our team is comprised of the following branches:

  • VIC TAS and SA Infrastructure Investment Branch
  • NSW & ACT Infrastructure Investment Branch
  • WA & NT Infrastructure Investment Branch
  • QLD Infrastructure Investment & Brisbane 2032 Games Venues Branch
  • Budget Policy & Assurance Branch
  • Infrastructure Investment Reform Branch and
  • RPM Taskforce.

The Budget Policy and Assurance Branch lead the development of the IIPs contribution to the Budget including preparing its Cabinet Submission. The Branch also provides strategic advice on future infrastructure investment supports program governance manages IIP funding and provides cost estimate and cost-benefit assurance of major infrastructure projects.

Infrastructure Project Assurance Section assesses the reported costs and benefits of projects submitted by proponents to ensure that they are robust and consider how they align against industry benchmarks. The section also undertakes research on technical topics manages tools and databases chairs bi-annual meetings with senior officials from jurisdictions and delivers workshops to the division.

What will you do

You will be joining Infrastructure Project Assurance Section at an exciting time! We are working closely with internal and external stakeholders on project reviews. The role offers invaluable experience to work on strategic high-profile and high-priority work.

Key duties for this role include:

  • Assist with the cost reviews and cost benefit analysis of projects.
  • Technical research and analysis to support/contribute to improvement of tools systems and frameworks.
  • Build productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including with other jurisdictions.
  • Provide key advice to government and executives to enable decision making on the governments Infrastructure investments to develop Australias land transport network

Minimum requirements for this role include:

  • A degree in engineering economics or a related technical field
  • Prior experience in engineering economics or a related technical field
  • Ability to provide a strategic level of specialist professional and/or technical subject matter expertise
  • Well-developed written and interpersonal communication skills including strong attention to detail
  • Ability to provide timely and concise advice to inform and support executive decision making
  • Ability to establish and maintain key strategic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Eligibility requirements

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure Transport Regional Development Communications Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

  • Citizenship:Candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
  • Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the departments preferred medical provider.
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Clearance Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia or have a checkable background for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.
  • Police check: The successful candidate must satisfactory complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
  • Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
  • Qualifications: A degree in engineering economics or a related technical field.
