As a Production Workshop Officer - Set Constructionyoullbe at the forefront of delivering exceptional set designs for the Faculty of Fine Arts and Musics performing artsprogramme. You will have the opportunity tosupportstudents collaborate with designers and ensure smooth operations during performances. Your role will be pivotal inmaintaininghigh standardsof safety and creativity contributing to the success of our artisticendeavours.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support Teaching and Learning:Providetechnical guidance forsetconstruction scenic elements and props ensuring professional standards in the workshop.
  • Facilitate Workshop Operations: Oversee student activities manage equipment and safety protocols and collaborate with production teams for successful project delivery.
  • Ensure Health and Safety Compliance: Implement risk management practices and contribute to compliance with university policies and regulations.
  • Manage Budgets and Resources: Monitor and reconcile expenditure against project budgets ensuring effective resource allocation.

You may be a great fit if:
You will have a strong background in performing arts set construction with excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve artistic excellence.

You may also:

  • Have a degree or equivalent professional experience in performing arts or set construction.
  • Possess industry experience in theatre production workshops or performance venues.
  • Demonstrateproficiencyin carpentry and basic metalwork techniques.
  • Have strong project and time management skills to meet production deadlines.
  • Be knowledgeable in safe handling of chemicals and materials in a workshop environment.

Your new team Programs and Operations
The Programs and Operations (P&O) team within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music is a dynamic work area delivering services support and technicalexpertiseto academics students professionalstaffand stakeholders.The team operates predominantly at the Southbank Campus within Melbournes Arts Precinct as well as the Universitys Parkville Campus.

The team oversees program planning delivery and operational functions across the following areas: production and technical; event coordination; film and recording studios; asset equipment and resource management; facilities maintenance and support; capital works and building projects; Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) technical infrastructure; management of workshops performance spaces studios and galleries. The Programs and Operations team collectively ensures the effective planning and delivery of the facultys performance creative and visual arts program aligned with teaching & learning research and engagement priorities.
