Boatwright Jr. Internship 3-month Rules & Competitions DepartmentDates Start/end dates are flexible: May-August (3 months) Two three-month internship positionsAbout the GSGAFounded in 1916 the Georgia State Golf Association (GSGA) received its official charter on June 24 1924. Since that date the GSGA has grown to one of the largest allied golf associations in the country with close to 350 member clubs and 80000 individual members. With a mission to promote and preserve amateur golf in the state of Georgia GSGA offers a computerized handicapping service course rating and measuring and annually conducts a full schedule of statewide competitions for men and women of all age groups. Other services include a statewide junior golf program award-winning Golf Georgia magazine membership recognition and rewards programs management of the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and the GSGA the USGA P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship ProgramThe P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship was created to inspire and provide opportunities for qualified individuals interested in a career in golf administration with a particular focus on attracting and developing a diverse pipeline of future leaders. The Programs further purpose is to support AGAs that administer USGA core functions. Prior to his death in 1991 P.J. Boatwright Jr. served the game of golf for many years as the Executive Director of Rules and Competitions for the United States Golf Association. He was most prominent during the U.S. Open where he oversaw every phase of the competition. Furthermore he was always on call to settle rules questions and was generally considered the worlds leading authority on the Rules of Golf. The USGA perpetuates a memorial tribute to P.J. Boatwright Jr. through funding of the internship program for state and regional golf associations across the country. The GSGA will offer two paid internships within its Rules & Competitions Department in 2025 with each having the opportunity to gain experience in core functions and departments of the GSGA. The start date of both internships is flexible but will be no later than May 15 Internship ActivitiesThe orientation and training will include but are not necessarily limited to the following areas of service: assisting the Rules and Competitions department with championships USGA qualifying rules of golf course marking and set-up entry procedures and communication to players assisting the Junior Golf department with the administration of events customer service inquiries managing tournament entries and training of summer staff members Member Play Day Program and One Day Series administration course rating and measuring communications and marketing handicapping foundation activities and general office administration. If available an intern may attend Boatwright Intern Orientation at USGA Headquarters in Far Hills NJ in May. USGA will pay for costs associated with attending the orientation including transportation hotel and Individual should have strong work ethic be self-motivated and a team player. An interest in learning all aspects of golf administration knowledge of the game of golf preferred. Willing to work weekends early mornings and long days as needed. Computer literate using MS Office. Valid drivers license and dependable vehicle. Attention to detail; ability to multi-task; strong organizational and problem-solving $12.50/hour plus overtime pursuant to the GSGA Employee Handbook. Interns should expect to work on average 40 50 hours per week Mileage reimbursement for work related travel Travel expenses for work purposes will be covered by the GSGA (meals lodging etc.) Staff clothing providedWhere are they now Several past USGA P.J.
