We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our team in the role of Director of Clinical Services (DCS).

Accountabilities:

The Director of Clinical Services (DCS) is accountable to the Executive Director and is responsible for organizing directing controlling and evaluating the delivery of health care services to ensure optimal resident health and wellbeing. Working collaboratively with the Director of Care (DOC) ensures effective management of the nursing team and resources within the nursing envelope based on legislative requirements and R. H. Lawson Eventide Home standards.

The DCS is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Army R. H. Lawson Eventide Home core values ensure resident safety and demonstrate customer service excellence while responsible for planning implementation and evaluation of programs and services provided to the residents.

Accountabilities:

  • Conduct daily assessments of residents health needs ensuring that appropriate interventions are implemented.
  • Plan organize direct control and evaluate the delivery of health care services for R. H. Lawson Eventide Home.
  • Establish maintain and revise standards for the provision of health care services in consultation with the Director of Care and the Executive Director in alignment with Best Practice Standards.
  • Develop evaluation systems to monitor the quality of care given to residents. Develops implements interprets and reviews standards policies and procedures of the Care Function in support of the R. H. Lawson Eventide Home mission and in accordance with existing legislative and regulatory requirements and professional standards of practice.
  • Daily oversight and management of direct and indirect reports.
  • Develop and implement plans for new programs and special projects and clinical initiatives.
  • In coordination with the DOC plan and control departmental budget and apply for special funding initiatives.
  • Represent R. H. Lawson Eventide Home at meetings with government officials the public and other organizations.
  • A member of senior management team in planning implementation and evaluation of facility-wide quality improvement/risk management activities. Oversees development of reports and attends meetings on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to health care supervisors and professionals.
  • Provide clinical expertise and oversight to enhance resident outcomes and sustain quality of life for residents living in our care.
  • Responsible for oversight and monitoring of resident hospitalization in alignment with Ontario Health Goals of the Right Care in the Right Place.
  • In collaboration with the DOC exploring and implementing enhanced clinical specialized tools to support resident care and treatment in house.
  • Focus of prevention of potentially avoidable Emergency Department Transfers and management of complex clinical resident cases
  • Consultation and Collaboration with hospital and community partners.

External Interdisciplinary Liaison

  • Attend meetings with provincial Health Care Services and interdisciplinary team.
  • Work collaboratively with provincial Health Care Services case managers physicians and pharmacy.
  • Participate in family conferences and related meetings.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Governance Boards and Councils: None

Internal: MU(s) leaders and staff volunteers various ad hoc Committees as assigned (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Committee).

External: provincial Health Care Services pharmacy physicians residents substitute decision makers power of attorney community members.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
  • This position has approximately 100 direct and indirect reports and provides expert advice to management and staff.
  • This position has authority to develop and implement care policy and procedures in support of the R.H. Lawson Eventide Home mission and in coordination with the Human Relations Business Partner hire professional and non-professional staff.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • This role has moderate material responsibilities (access to personal and confidential information proper use of software if applicable access to medications etc.).
  • In coordination with DOC prepares/monitors annual budgets of department.
  • Has expenditure approval within identified limits.
  • Input into new policy development.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This role is located in a seniors congregate setting and may be subject to working in outbreak

(COVID flu etc.) conditions.

  • May work with aggressive or cognitively impaired residents.
  • Interacts with families staff and volunteers.
  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities.
  • This position participates in the Management on Call process.

education and experience Qualifications:

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a Bachelor Degree in Nursing as well as a Nurse Practitioner educational program that has been approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario Council and a current registration in good standing as a Nurse Practitioner with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Certificate in palliative care and/or gerontology would be an asset.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Over 10 years of progressive nursing experience with the ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Previous experience working with seniors and/or in unionized long term care environments would be preferred.
  • Previous supervisory budgeting union and/or program planning experience would be an asset.
  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment including Outlook Word Power Point Teams and Excel. Knowledge of Point Click Care and/or RAI/MDS would be an asset.

  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated skill in leadership including experience with setting and achieving strategy goals and objectives; problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrate relevant understanding of and compliance with legislative knowledge of the Fixing Long Term Care Act 2021 Employment Standards Act Human Rights Act collective agreements and other applicable legislation as required.
  • Current knowledge of issues and trends including best practices in nursing and resident care.
  • Knowledge of current quality improvement and risk management concepts and approaches.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
    • Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to change focus rapidly based on new and/or urgent priorities.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary communication in complex care issues to foster positive resident outcomes.
  • Establish and sustain care in a manner that is resident centred and fosters evidence based best practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a resident-centered leadership style.
  • Demonstrated commitment to treating others with respect and dignity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Focus on a collaborative team approach with all managers and staff and create a working climate that is positive and mutually supportive.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $94145.42 to $117681.77 with a maximum of $141218.12.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
