Hatfield Consultants is seeking a Co-Opto join our dynamic Water Resources Group in Fort McMurray Alberta. This can be either a 4 or 8 month term starting in May 2026. You will provide field and technical support for the implementation of hydrogeology and hydrology components of Hatfields oil and gas mining and infrastructure projects. Duties will consist of carrying out field work on a variety of field programs entering and analyzing data assisting with the writing of reports and assisting in other environmental projects as assigned.Responsibilities:- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to collect data to assess potential project-related and/or climate change related impacts with respect to water resources and environmental values. This will include providing support for a variety of water resource (e.g. hydrogeological water quality hydrometric and climate) monitoring programs.
- Participate in hydrogeological field investigation and monitoring programs under the supervision of experienced Hatfield staff.
- Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated to meet operational and field requirements.
- Compliance with Hatfields Health and Safety Management Plan the law and client health and safety protocols.
- Support on-going data management and reporting functions.
Education and Experience:- Pursuing a . or technical diploma in sciences or engineering. Some prior formal training (e.g. coursework) in hydrogeology and/or hydrology is considered an asset.
- Experience related to groundwater exploration and testing groundwater monitoring hydrometric climate and/or surface water sampling is desirable but not required.
- Other experience that would be beneficial include construction environmental monitoring; soil sediment surface and groundwater quality sampling; and environmental effects monitoring and reporting.
- A valid Canadian drivers license for the past 3 years as well as the ability to drive a pickup truck and meet the requirements for our third-party automobile insurance coverage.
Other Assets/Skills:- Comfortable using technology and a desire to learn how to operate a variety of environmental
monitoring systems such as dataloggers and software packages. - Ability to work in teams of technicians with varying levels of experience and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork in a range of weather conditions including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays.
- Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of adherence to field standard operating procedures and good data collection.
