The Operations Manager at Majestic Steel is responsible for directing and overseeing daily production and operational functions within the steel processing service center. This position ensures all processing activities including slitting shearing cut to length and warehousing are executed in a safe efficient and quality compliant manner. The Operations Manager provides leadership in driving operational efficiency optimizing workflows managing personnel maintaining equipment and supporting the achievement of customer requirements and organizational objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Production Oversight:
- Manage and coordinate all steel processing activities including slitting shearing blanking and other value-added services.
- Ensure efficient utilization of resources and optimize production processes to meet customer demand.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead mentor and develop operations personnel including supervisors machine operators and material handlers.
- Ensure proper staffing training and performance management to maintain a high-performing team.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the production facility.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA standards and all company safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Scheduling & Workflow Management:
- Plan and prioritize daily production schedules based on customer demand and available resources.
- Coordinate with sales customer service and logistics teams to ensure on-time delivery of quality products.
- Quality Assurance:
- Collaborate with the Quality team to monitor product standards and implement improvements
- Drive initiatives to reduce defects minimize rework and enhance overall product quality
- Inventory & Materials Management:
- Oversee raw material handling in-process storage and finished goods staging.
- Coordinate closely with the warehouse and logistics team to ensure efficient material flow and optimize inventory levels.
- Maintenance Oversight:
- Work with maintenance personnel to ensure that machinery and equipment are properly maintained.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance actions to minimize downtime and improve overall equipment effectiveness.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements using lean manufacturing principles 5S or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Foster a culture of innovation and empower team members to contribute ideas for enhancing operational efficiency.
- Reporting & Metrics:
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production output efficiency scrap rates downtime and labor utilization.
- Analyze data to drive decision-making and provide regular updates to senior management.
- Other duties as assigned by the plant manager.
Education Training and Experience Requirements
- Minimum 36 years of experience in a steel service center or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Technologically savvy with experience in MS Office products and Windows-based computer applications.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Requirements
- Strong knowledge of steel grades tolerances and processing equipment (e.g. slitters shears CTL lines).
- Proven leadership and team development skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and production scheduling tools.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing Six Sigma or similar operational excellence frameworks.
- Strong communication problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced high-volume and dynamic environment.
- Commitment to ensuring the safety of associates and visitors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering Manufacturing Operations Management or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 68 years of experience in a steel service center or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Exercises supervision over Area Managers and Reliability Manager.

- Must be able to work outside normal business hours/days as needed.
- Must be able to travel occasionally and work at an outside location.
