The International Mission Board a nonprofit religious organization in Richmond VA is hiring for anAssociate General Counsel!
The Associate General Counsel will serve as a supporting attorney to the General Counsel to fulfill the General Counsels mission of providing excellent legal advice with integrity that enables IMB to fulfill its vision of a multitude from every language people tribe and nation knowing and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. The Associate General Counsel will provide legal analysis and strategic advice to enable IMB to navigate the complex patchwork of both state and federal laws in the US and the laws of over 100 sovereign countries that apply to IMB personnel and its global operations.
Responsibilities:
- Draft review and negotiate realestate agreements worldwidespanning purchasesale contracts construction deals leases easements and development agreements to drive strategic stewardship of IMBs global property assets.
- Conduct legal due diligence on international property acquisitions dispositions and leases and design optimal entity structures that maximize tax efficiency and shield IMB from liability.
- Serve as the trusted legal advisor to IMBs Human Resources team on every facet of employment lawfrom recruitment through retirementwhile navigating the distinctive challenges of a faithbased employer such as religious hiring ministerialexception claims missionary deployments and crossborder compliance.
- Provide support for internal personnel investigations ensuring swift fair and legally sound outcomes.
- Research analyze and deliver expert counsel on U.S. and global regulatory issues affecting IMBs logistics finance Human Resources and worldwide staff covering taxation banking and corporate transparency requirements.
- Partner with local counsel across multiple jurisdictions to identify and mitigate legal risks guaranteeing strict compliance with regional employment and realestate statutes.
- Direct the resolution of realestate and employmentlaw disputes orchestrating litigation or arbitration strategies and managing external counsel to protect IMBs interests.
Requirements:
- At least five to eight years of law practice
- In house experience is advantageous but not required
- Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school
- Licensed by the Virginia State Bar (or willingness to obtain VA licensure)
- Previous involvement with diverse legal issues related to real estate and human resource initiatives
- Ability to manage a legal project from beginning to end and meet client needs.
- Experience with utilization design development and implementation of a variety of processes procedures templates and tools to accomplish job responsibilities.
- Experience with drafting emails and legal memoranda on complex issues impacting businesses and nonprofit organizations internationally; researching reviewing and drafting a variety of legal documents from jurisdictions around the world; craft and deliver recommendations and presentations on simple to complex legal topics to a wide variety of audiences.
- Proven ability to build client relationships; identify gather and evaluate relevant information to make informed recommendations; navigate through ambiguity obstacles and multi-faceted individual and organizational needs.
- Intermediate computer skills including Office 365 application and legal software.
- Ability to travel internationally(2x a year).
