Business Overview:

The Fund Treasurers Office provides fiduciary oversight of the Fidelity (FIC) product line up to ensure the best interest of investors in our funds is upheld. We also provide regular reporting and disclosure to investors regulators and corporate governance committees in accordance with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements.

The Purpose of the Role:

The Alternative & Portfolio Valuation Oversight Managers main responsibilities include overseeing all key operational aspects of the funds managed by Fidelity including but not limited to oversight of the back office and middle office functions of the Fund Administrator and Custodian being the key point of contact in the relationship management of the service providers delivering supervisory oversight over exception management and providing coverage for other members of the Fund Treasurers Office in their absence.

Please note that the internal business title for this role is: Fund Treasury Manager.

The role of the Fund Treasurers Office is to: (1) provide fiduciary oversight to ensure the best interests of clients holding FIC products are upheld and (2) provide regular disclosure to unitholders regulators and internal governance committees based on regulatory requirements and internal guidelines

What Were Looking For:

Education:

  • University Degree preferably with a focus on Finance or Accounting (or equivalent experience)

Experience:

  • 5 Years in financial industry with emphasis on alternative asset operations and private asset fair valuation experience

  • Experience preparing or reviewing private and or illiquid asset valuation packages.

  • Experience preparing or reviewing liquid securities daily pricing.

  • Extensive knowledge of fund accounting pricing custody and the operational aspects of investment funds including alternative investment funds operations valuation and pricing.

  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian and global investment industry including NI 81-102 and NI 81-106.

  • Experience in dealing with valuation firms for private placement valuation

Specific Certifications:

  • Accounting designation(CPA CA) or equivalent is an asset

  • In possession of or working toward post graduate designation (CFA MBA CBV) is an asset

What You Will Do:

Manage Oversight of Private Asset Valuation and Pricing

  • Lead/participate in biweekly/monthly/quarterly reviews with major valuation and pricing service groups to review performance against agreed upon expectations (per service level agreement). Performance metrics are developed and included in a scorecard for review during monthly meetings.

  • Participate and represent the Fund Treasurers Office in the valuation and pricing vendor relationship meetings.

  • Lead/participate in overseeing private asset valuation including but not limited to real estate assets private credit infrastructure and private equity.

  • Assist with analysis of complex accounting issues that arise

  • Responsible for ensuring meaningful and timely communication of initiatives or findings to the attention of the FTO and impacted business partners.

  • Oversee the planning and conduction of annual due diligence with major valuation and pricing service groups including those of third-party private asset managers. Ensure all due diligence sessions are held in a timely manner and cover the required service lines and scope. Supervise the completion of agendas and meeting materials to ensure quality and robust discussions are held. Complete the final due diligence reports and prepare presentations for the appropriate FIC internal committees and Boards.

  • Ensure the accuracy of any private asset valuation and accounting considerations including but not limited to waterfall distribution calculations incentive fees/carried interest etc..

  • Manage and design bespoke processes and oversight controls related to private asset valuation.

  • Understand complex investing strategies of mutual funds and alternative products investing in private assets and design effective oversight controls to oversee any operational risks.

  • Oversee capital call process

  • Oversee and ensure accuracy of performance fees

  • Contribute to the operational design of new alternative products

Oversee Operational aspects of FICs Alternative Product Line up

  • Participate and represent Fund Treasurers Office in all alternative product launches and large client transitions into alternative products to ensure effective implementation of new products and alignment of appropriate operational framework

  • Provide ongoing oversight of existing alternative products to ensure efficient and effective operations along with a management of risk

  • Laisse with key stakeholders (Sub-Advisors PSG teams Custodians Administrators etc.) to ensure key operational details are understood in advance of launch.

  • Design and build effective controls for alternative products which may be new to the FIC business

  • Ability to communicate complex processes to internal and external business as they relate to alternative products to ensure key risks are understood
