Academic Support Assistant

Lyon College seeks an Academic Support Assistant (ASA). The ASA is an integral team member within the Morrow Academic Center. The ASA will spend their time overseeing and assisting peer-led programs conducting workshops and testing services. Candidates must have a bachelors degree with scheduling flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours. This is a 12-month position and is full-benefit eligible. Familiarity with a residential liberal arts environment is preferred. A description of knowledge skills abilities and responsibilities follows.

• Assist in supervision of student employees in peer-led programs
• Assist in the continuation and effectiveness of peer-led programming such as Supplemental Instruction tutoring the Writing Center and peer academic coaching.
• Assist in the continuation and effectiveness of testing services.
• Perform academic success workshops.
• Recommend to the Director of Academic Support new strategies and programs to support student success especially of first-generation college students and student-athletes.
  
• Ability to conduct academic advising of first year or transfer students.
• Meet with students regularly to review academic progress and maintain campus involvement.
• Keep up with registration deadlines and help make sure students register on time.
  
• Assist students with any changes in their course of study.
• Move students toward declaring majors and shifting to faculty advisor as quickly as practical and generally in at least one semester.
• Provide students with the guidance and tools to become self-directed and responsible for their own educational choices.
• Assess need for support services and make referrals to resources on campus.
