Northeastern University Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowships Program is a two-year experiential program designed to advance lifelong learning and the education and training of Pharm.D. graduates. A key element of the programs success is preparing Fellows to meet evolving workforce needs across various sectors of the pharmaceutical industry.
Fellows have the opportunity to work closely with our innovative biopharmaceutical industry partners while engaging with Northeastern University faculty in professional and career development teaching service and scholarly activities.
In partnership with Northeastern University BioNTech is offering a two-year Health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) fellowship based in Berkeley Heights NJ.
BioNTech is a Germany-based biotechnology company with U.S. offices in Cambridge MA Berkeley Heights NJ and Gaithersburg MD that focuses on developing cancer therapeutics including individualized immunotherapy as well as vaccines for infectious diseases including COVID-19. The companys oncology pipeline contains several classes of drugs including mRNA-based drugs to encode antigens neoantigens cytokines and antibodies; bispecific antibodies; and small-molecule immunomodulators. Overview:
As healthcare faces significant financial challenges globally pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies are working to holistically assess and communicate the value of their products to patients physicians and payers. The two-year Health Economic & Outcomes Research (HEOR) Fellowship is designed to develop PharmD graduates with the goal of understanding the dynamic healthcare ecosystem through hands on experience. Throughout the two-year program the fellows will learn to identify the clinical economic and humanistic value drivers of BioNTech products. They will learn advanced techniques to quantify the value communicate the findings in scientific congresses & peer reviewed publications and compliantly engage stakeholders (US population health decision makers and/or HTA bodies) on the value of BioNTechs innovative products.
Work on products across the Oncology and Infectious disease therapeutic areas at BioNTech
Learn through hands-on experience and understand how global HEOR provides strategic inputs to address the specific value challenges for each individual therapy
Be fully integrated with the cross-functional environment (Medical Affairs Market Access Commercial Biostatistics Regulatory Safety Clinical Development and Clinical Operations) and work collaboratively to assess the value of the asset throughout its lifecycle
Support and learn to lead global HEOR studies which span across the key scientific pillars of Health Economics including;
Patient-focused drug development including patient-reported outcomes as key measures in clinical trials Patients Voice and associated regulatory interactions
Real-world evidence generation and analysis to identify unmet needs and inform comparative effectiveness global epidemiology (including race ethnicity age sex) to support regulatory interactions and disease education & awareness
Network meta-analysis: indirect and mixed treatment comparisons (ITC/MTC)
Health economic models (cost effectiveness analysis global and country adaptations and global & country adaptations of budget impact analysis) and target patient population tools (US intended use and ex-US target patient population)
Global HEOR launch activities
In support of US launch pre-approval information exchange (PIE) tools and post-approval value tools
Early advice/health authority interactions and reimbursement dossier development
Joint clinical assessment (JCA) and global value dossier development
Co-author abstracts presentations and manuscripts to clinical conferences (e.g. ASCO/ESMO) health economic conferences (e.g. ISPOR/AMCP) and peer-reviewed journals
Support the initiation and implementation of HEOR activities including value and evidence generation plan (VEG-P) RFP/SOW/contracting/invoicing manage operationalize update publication plan and vendor interactions
Manage HEOR external facing materials development via company systems (e.g. Veeva Medcomms/PromoMats)
Working towards a Masters in HEOR during the fellowship is highly encouraged
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited institution
Eligible for pharmacist licensure in the State of Massachusetts
Advanced degree (PhD/ScD) preferred in related field including; Public Health-Health Policy & Management/Health Services Research/Epidemiology/Outcomes Research/Health Economics Economics/Econometrics Psychometrics Statistics/Biostatistics Pharmacoeconomics/Pharmacy Administration
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong time management and leadership abilities
Ability to work independently and take initiative on a variety of projects at both the industry site and Northeastern
