Humboldt Senior Resource Center is looking for a full-time Phlebotomist to support our participants in our Redwood Coast PACE program. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

JOB SUMMARY: The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting processing and transporting blood and other laboratory specimens from Redwood Coast PACE participants to support accurate and timely diagnostic testing. This position plays a key role in ensuring quality laboratory services are delivered in accordance with clinical standards and organizational procedures. The Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and specimen collection both at PACE centers and in participants homes provides education on specimen collection procedures maintains proper documentation and records and ensures compliance with safety and infection control protocols.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform venipuncture for Redwood Coast PACE participants at any of the three PACE sites or in the participants home as needed.
  2. Instruct participants on the collection of stool or urine specimens.
  3. Educate staff on proper collection media and collection directions as needed (regarding wound or viral cultures stool or urine specimens etc.).
  4. Complete test ordering in both EMR as well as for reference lab system.
  5. Maintain accurate physical records of test results.
  6. Retrieve samples from other sites and/or deliver samples as needed to the contracted laboratory for processing.
  7. Contact participants directly to schedule in-home appointments.
  8. Ensure lab work is completed as needed for any outside appointments.
  9. Order/stock supplies as needed.
  10. Perform in-house testing.
  11. Perform quality control testing as needed for regular maintenance of in-house machines.
  12. Perform general housekeeping in the lab area.

  14. Additional duties may be assigned as needed that align with the responsibilities of the position and support the vision mission and values of the organization.


Qualifications

EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  2. Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy Technician program.
  3. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a phlebotomist acute care experience preferred.
  4. At least one (1) year of experience working with frail or elderly individuals preferred.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

  1. Licensed as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician in the State of California.
  2. Valid California Drivers License and personal auto liability insurance are required. Must have a personal vehicle in good driving/operating condition insured for State minimum liability requirements that can be used for the applicable job functions noted above.

PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Pre-employment physical and PPD skin test (TB screening).
  2. COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) vaccinations preferred.
  3. This position requires the successful completion of a background check.
  4. A current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) is required to determine eligibility for driving on behalf of the organization.

  6. Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team demonstrating sound listening skills to receive directions and understand participant concerns; maintains a cooperative and supportive attitude.
  7. Maintains participant privacy and organizational confidentiality adhering to HIPAA and agency standards.
  8. Ability to be dependable accept supervision follow direction and improve performance through feedback.
  9. Applies good judgement resourcefulness and flexibility to resolve issues and adapt to changing circumstances.
  10. Remains calm and effective when priorities shift deadlines change and unexpected issues arise.
  11. Maintains confidentiality reliability and ethical standards; consistently demonstrates punctuality attendance and responsibility in work performance.
  12. Basic knowledge of computers and web-based applications such as timekeeping training and email programs as well as electronic health records.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Phlebotomist position requires the ability to stand walk bend and reach for extended periods while performing specimen collection and related tasks. The role involves frequent hand and arm use for venipuncture handling laboratory materials and operating equipment. The employee must be able to lift carry and transport supplies or specimens weighing up to 25 pounds. This position requires driving between sites and performing collections in participants homes which can include varying physical environments. Visual acuity manual dexterity and the ability to communicate clearly are essential to ensure safe and accurate performance of duties.
