    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. High school diploma and recent supplemental training in subjects directly related to automotive/truck/bus mechanics
    2. Experience equivalent to journeyman mechanic in repair of heavy duty diesel and gasoline motorized equipment
    3. Ability to plan assign prioritize and evaluate shop work
    4. Ability to diagnose equipment problems and effect repairs
    5. Knowledge of laws rules and regulations related to school transportation
    6. Knowledge and ability to use computers for department data entry and equipment diagnostics
    7. Ability to develop specifications for purchase of equipment
    8. Ability to work effectively with staff and public
    9. Knowledge of basic recordkeeping procedures
    10. Possession of or ability to obtain class B license


    REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned

    JOB GOAL: To maintain district vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Plans and organizes repair and maintenance of district rolling equipment and other miscellaneous equipment asassigned
    2. Diagnoses repairs maintains and services equipment; performs general overhaul of engines; utilizes diagnostic equipment
    3. Monitors use of shop materials; maintains accurate inventory; orders supplies as required
    4. Assigns work to shop staff and outside contractors; inspects work completed by district mechanics and outsideagencies
    5. Maintains accurate vehicle and shop records
    6. Enforces department safety procedures
    7. Coordinates with transportation staff the scheduling of inspections and repairs
    8. Performs other related duties as assigned


    SALARY: $34.96 - $56.97 per hour

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the districts
    improvement of Professional Services handbook Board Policies and Procedures
    and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

    NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

    A new employee or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification shall serve a probationary periodwhich shall not exceed one (1) year of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During thisprobationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanentstatus in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationaryclassification at any time without cause without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant toEducation Code section 45113 a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationaryperiod for that promotional position shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California MotorVehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department ofJustice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification ofcompletion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annuallythereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
