Job Summary

Part-Time (8-16 hours/week)

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides therapeutic recreation services for the inpatient unit. Assures that all therapeutic activities are consistent with accepted National Certified Therapeutic Recreation credential practices and provides patients with therapeutic experiences. May monitor and guide the activities of Mental Health Technicians and/or other staff delivering recreational therapy services to assure the quality of those services.
MAJOR & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assesses plans implements and evaluates Adjunct Therapy activities to assure patients individual treatment needs and objectives are being met.
  • Completes assessment on patients and provides therapeutic recreation interventions to meet the patients individual needs.
  • Actively participates in treatment planning reviews and updates.
  • Provides Recreational Therapy group and individual activities in a safe and therapeutic manner.
  • Documents patient assessment group involvement and progress toward objectives.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of the Recreational Therapy room. Inventories and orders supplies such as yarn paint brushes athletic equipment etc. with the approval of the Director of Nursing. Responsible for petty cash fund.
  • May serve on quality assurance committees in which the quality of clinical care for the entire agency is monitored by reviewing charts criteria for admissions/continued stay/discharge performing patient care audits and investigating adverse occurrences in treatment.
  • Follows all universal precautions for safety infection control and follows all state federal and joint commission health and safety standards.
  • Treats patients and family with dignity and respect at all times and holds all patient information in the strictest confidence.
  • Adhere to professional standards policies and procedures federal state and local requirements and Joint Commission standards including National Patient Safety Goals. Presents a positive image of MHSCC to other community agencies caregivers and citizens
  • Completes all MHS required education and training including initial agency orientation mandatory trainings and educations and up keep of all required certifications and licensure as required by state federal and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates organizational stewardship and exemplifies the mission vision and values of MHS.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned
Education/Experience
  • Bachelors degree in Recreational Therapy or related field (Masters Preferred)
  • Licensed in Recreation Therapy or related state or national board
  • 1-3 years experience working with behavioral health patients
  • Prior experience in activities or recreation therapy highly preferred
Licensure/Certifications
  • NVCI
  • CPR (BLS)/First Aid
MHS provides CPR (BLS)/First Aid and NVCI (CPI Blue Card) for all new staff along with on-going education and on-the-job training opportunities.

All MHS candidates are required to have an Ohio BCI check (FBI check required if you have lived in Ohio for less than 5 years or for working with children) 5-panel drug screen and Residential candidates must have a 2-step TB (or proof of prior TB) upon conditional offer of employment.
