Job Summary

Job Description

Davis Behavioral Health (DBH) is committed to being a vital part of the community. One way through which DBH has been able to assist members of the community is to provide internship and practicum opportunities for students in Social Work programs at accredited universities.

Please visit the DBH career page (here) to apply for this position as quick applications through sites like Indeed and others may cause delays as critical information is not required on those sites.

Internship/Practicum/Preceptorship Opportunities

DBH is an approved field site for the following programs:

  1. Bachelors of Social Work (BSW)

  2. Masters of Social Worker (MSW)

  3. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

DBH is also an approved placement site for psychiatry residents for the University of Utah and A.T. Still University.

Competitive Placement

Practicum/internship opportunities at DBH are competitive so that we can not only provide the highest quality educational experience to our interns but also ensure that they are a good fit for DBH as the agency historically offers employment to many interns upon graduation. The number of slots is determined by the clinical leadership team each year including the ability to provide 1st-year MSW placements based on the availability of field supervisors at DBH related to their primary job functions and other assigned tasks.

Due to the limited spots DBH currently does not accept interns from any other programs including high school students.

For the 2026/27 academic year DBH will only be accepting applications for students enrolled in the following programs and universities:

BSW

  • Weber State University

MSW

  • Weber State University
  • Utah State University
  • University of Utah
  • Boise State University

PMHNP

  • Weber State University
  • University of Utah
  • Rocky Mountain
  • Maryville University

Student Requirements

Students are required to provide DBH with all of the contact information for the practicum advisor at your academic institution so that we can determine if we are able to meet the requirements as both an agency and that our staff are able to meet the requirements and obligations to be a field supervisor.

Classification

Student interns working at DBH for a period longer than 4 weeks are classified as non-exempt employees.

Psychiatry residents are classified as contractors since they are compensated through the academic institutions they are studying at.

Internship and preceptorship placements of 4 weeks or less are classified as volunteers and are not compensated.

Schedule

DBH restricts internship opportunities to Monday through Friday with extremely limited evening hours available due to supervision requirements and availability.

Compensation

All interns placed at DBH are paid without exception. To prevent unequal practices at DBH the inability of a student to receive compensation as a student will likely impact the ability to be placed at DBH. The approved rates for student interns at DBH are outlined below:

  • 2nd Year and Advanced Standing MSW Practicum students are paid a $3750 per semester stipend at the end of each semester.

  • PMHNP students are compensated at the rate of $18.75 per hour.

  • 1st Year MSW students BSW students and all other bachelor-level interns are compensated at the rate of $10.00 per hour.

Required Experience

Students interested in completing their graduate or undergraduate internship/practicum must be enrolled in the social work program at an accredited university. If a field placement agreement is not in place with the academic institution you are enrolled it this will need to be completed prior to the internship begins.

Davis Behavioral Health utilizes an electronic medical record which requires proficiency in computer-related skills.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol; therefore making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample. Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.

Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws including no use of medical marijuana.

Benefits

The part-time positions at DBH are not eligible to participate in the agencys benefits program.

All employees at DBH are eligible to utilize the agencys robust Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Intermountain Health.

Davis Behavioral Health is an equal opportunity employer.
